Zagreb wins the Intercities; Cubric, the MVP
29-09-2010
Zagreb won the second edition of the U-18 Intercities Tournament, held last week in Madrid. The croatians, with Stipe Cubric ('93) named as the MVP, were unstoppable for the other three squads: Malaga, Belgrade and Madrid. The serbian capital will host the other tournament of this season. We will see who will win there. Let's check what happened in Madrid reading the article of Carlos Gómez in Muevetebasket website.

Zagreb was built by the whole team of KK Dubrava, coached by Nikola Piacun. They were led by point-guard Stipe Cubric ('93) -ended with 13.7 points-, and helped by Matej Buovac ('93) and youngster Mislav Brzola ('94) -gold last summer in the U-16 EC-.

Malaga finished second, with many players of Unicaja. With the absence of Álex Abrines ('93), practicing with the ACB team, shined the african Malick Maodo ('93) and the czechs Jan Svandrlik ('94) and Samuel Faifr ('93).

With only one player of Partizan the serbian team didn't made a good tournament, with youngsters Vukasin Mladenovic ('94) and Lazar Mladenovic ('94) sending good sensations.

Finally Madrid, with many absences (Jaime Fernández, Guille Hernangómez, Daniel Díez, Jorge Sanz), lost the three games. Julen Olaizola ('93), from Real Madrid, averaged 15.7 points.

Results: Madrid 68 Malaga 71, Zagreb 90 Madrid 85, Madrid 80 Belgrade 90, Belgrade 56 Zagreb 72, Belgrade 66 Malaga 69 and Malaga 70 Zagreb 80.

All-Tournament Team (according to Muevetebasket): Stipe Cubric ('93, Zagreb, 13.0p): , Luis Conde ('93, Malaga, 11.7p), Mislav Brzoja ('94, Zagreb, 21.0p), Nikola Budic ('93, Belgrade, 16.7p) and Julen Olaizola ('93, Madrid, 15.7).
