Career Highlights
Akida is a long athletic post player who has the versatility to play
as a stretch PF and down on the block as an effective Center. Akida
possesses many mismatches as he has the size to post any PF down in the
block. He is also very quick and possesses good handles and an outside
shot to score on any Center. Akida is a lefty who can also play point
forward and is somewhat similar to Lamar Odom. In his first season
overseas Akida excelled in Cyprus and was voted one of the top post
players in the league. He was then promoted to play in the top league
in Ukraine for Khimik.
After transferring from Boston College to IUP, Akida flourished.
Akida averaged over 15ppg, 8rpg and led IUP to the best record in school
history in his senior season. He led his team to the Division 2 finals
and made the all D2 team and was all conference. His school posted a
33-3 record. While at Boston College, Akida helped lead BC to the best
record in school history and to BC’s first Sweet 16 appearance
As a senior at Penn Hills High School he averaged 16.0 points, 10.0
rebounds and 5.0 blocked shots per game. Akida earned Pittsburgh
Post-Gazette Player of the Year honors in 2003-04, All-State honors, and
was a two-time All-Conference selection.
Personal
Akida earned his Bachelor of Arts in communications at IUP/Boston
College. Akida is the son of Eve and Lester McLain and has an older
brother named Omari. Akida was born on March 18, 1986. His favorite
basketball player is Lamar Odom.
