Saul Niguez: "I want to spend my entire career at Atletico"

The midfielder picked up the Apuesta del Ano prize for the breakthrough player of the season, awarded by the Spanish national lotteries and gaming authority in conjunction with the Spanish Sports Press Association (AEPD).

Saul Niguez has said that he believes Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone will stay with the club this summer.

Ever since the 5-3 penalty shoot-out defeat to rivals Real Madrid in the Champions League final, there has been speculation suggesting El Cholo will walk away.

Saul was unfortunate to miss out on the final 23-man squad for Spain's European Championship squad but was awarded the 'Revelation of La Liga season' prize.

At a ceremony to receive the trophy, he was confident Simeone would stay put.

"We all want him to stay.

"Everyone is hurt by the Champions League final but I believe he will stay with us."

Atletico have already made moves to strengthen ahead of another push for the European crown next season, adding Nicolas Gaitan to the squad.

Gaitan will give Simeone an extra offensive dimension and Saul fully endorsed his signing.

"We are currently suffering here at the Estadio Vicente Calderon and hopefully he will come and contribute.

"It is a great signing."

After a wonderful breakthrough season it was a shock to many to see the midfielder left out of the squad heading to France.

When asked about his absence, he reaffirmed his desire to be ready for the next opportunity at international level.

"I am resting and enjoying spending time with my family.

"I would have liked to be there and it was an honour to be part of the 25 but I have to keep working with my club and sooner or later my chance will come."
