Manchester United's Nemanja Vidic has been named the
Barclays Player of the Year, while Sir Alex Ferguson was handed the
Manager of the Year award from the Premier League's sponsors.
Vidic has started more league games than any other United player
this season, as the Red Devils claimed yet another top division title
success. The centre-back's form was one of the key factors in the Old
Trafford club's league triumph and progression to the final of the
Champions League.
The media, football supporters and representatives from governing
bodies, meanwhile, named 69-year-old Ferguson the top manager after he
secured his twelfth Premier League trophy as United manager. It is the
ninth time that the Scot has received the reward.
Man United’s final league game of the season sees them take on
relegation-threatened Blackpool at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
Ferguson has promised to field a "strong" team despite having the league
crown wrapped up and Saturday week's Champions League decider against
Barcelona on the horizon.
