RANGERS new-boy Dado Prso is hoping for a hero's welcome in Scotland - after sending England packing from Euro 2004.

The Croatia hotshot insists he is happy to become an honorary member of the Tartan Army during Monday's battle against the Auld Enemy.

Prso, 29, starts a new career with Rangers next season and knows he will be carried shoulder-high through the streets on his arrival if he helps put England out.

Even Celtic supporters would grudgingly raise a glass or three to the pony-tailed poacher in celebration of their hated rival's demise. Prso has hit form at the wrong time for England. His magnificent half-volley stunned France in Thursday's thrilling 2-2 draw which set Group B alight.

He said: "I know if I score the winner against England, I will be a hero in Scotland when I arrive at Rangers. That would not be a bad thing.

"The Rangers fans should not judge me on one game, I have been good all season. I am confident we can win. One match does not make your season.

"I wasn't very good against Switzerland but, against France, I was good and I will be even better against England. My goal against France has given me extra confidence.

"Every game is different. It will be a big challenge for us facing England and a big game for us, no doubt.

"We will be watching England on video but I think we will go and attack them.

"England play very well on the counter-attack with fast players.

"We could have easily beaten France and England should not underestimate us. France underestimated us and England should not make the same mistake.

"If they do, they will be in real trouble. Croatia are now the form team.

"Our team spirit is our power. England have big players all over Europe but we have big players in France and Germany. We have a good chance and our aim is to reach the next round."

Prso's stunning goal was his first at Euro 2004 after a sluggish start by the entire Croatia team in their opening 0-0 draw with Switzerland.

Coach Otto Baric's gameplan is based around the outgoing Monaco striker, who is joining Alex McLeish at Ibrox on a Bosman free for pre-season.

He is relatively inexperienced with only 15 international caps but has bags of potential to cause England's downfall in the final Group B match.

Prso set a Champions League record this season with four goals in one match during Monaco's 8-3 rout of Spaniards Deportivo La Coruna.

And his superb form made him a target for several leading clubs before he opted for Scotland. Croatia have been transformed from the team which scraped into the Euro finals via a play-off victory over Slovenia into a side which must be respected - or else.

Croatian strike legend Robert Prosinecki won the European Cup with Real Madrid and was a member of his country's celebrated squad which finished third in France 98.

He said: "We have good players who can cause England problems. You saw that against France.

"You should never underestimate Croatia. Teams should do that at their peril.

"We played a great game against France but, in my opinion, I think the best midfield at Euro 2004 has been the English. And in a nutshell, the midfield is decisive when it comes to winning games.

"But we will play with a big fighting spirit and a big heart.

"We will go out to win the game but, if we don't, at least we will have proved we can play."

Portsmouth striker Ivica Mornar claimed he would approach Euro 2004 "like a boxer" ready to fight for his country.

The shaven-headed hardman has already been caught up in a storm over claims he elbowed several Swiss players during last Sunday's draw.

But he said: "If we can play against England as we did against France in the second half, we have a great chance.

"Maybe if we played them 10 times, we may lose six. But, in a one-off, I believe everything is possible."
