It's summer 2012. 20-year-old Damian Kądzior, the champion of Polish juniors with MOSP Jagiellonia is the hope of the Bialystok football. Unfortunately, no one wants to give him a real chance in the first team. As if that was not enough, a young midfielder catches an injury in both feet. At some point the situation is so dramatic that the boy goes into a wheelchair. - It was for a while, but actually such a situation took place - says Robert Kądzior, the father of the footballer, who himself, in the late 80's and 90's, scored six appearances in the first league (then league). He also won the Polish junior championship '88 with Jagiellonia.
- In both legs it was about the fifth metatarsal bone. Both legs were immobilized. We started looking for a solution on our own. In this situation, the journalist of Przegląd Sportowy helped us a great deal, Piotr Wołosik, who through the then manager Franciszek Smuda, contacted us with the doctor of that team Mariusz Urban. Quick consultation and treatment in Krakow. Damian was implanted in both feet after the screw. He has them so far. We do not take them out, because it feels safer with them on the court - emphasizes the dad of the new kadrowicz.
In Jaga they crossed it out.
It was then that the young footballer and his entourage began to hear signs that in Jagiellonia they did not bind the future with him. - I do not want to go back to this and clean the dirt again. Damian was a young player entering the team with an injury. It would probably be different if he was a leading character - says Kądzior senior. After the rehabilitation, my son always pressed his dad to organize additional workouts for him. Anyway, as it is in Bialystok, you can meet him practicing on the pitch of the MOSP Academy, so it was in the summer before signing the contract with Górnik.
- Christmas or not, we went to the spotted eagles and other nearby fields in Bialystok and we practiced individually. We set up the cones and Damian polished the technique. Sometimes I did not have the strength, returning from work, and he never had enough - admits father of player Górnik Zabrze. After recovering, Damian was on a junior contract in Jaga all the time. He knew, however, that the extra-league team would hardly get a chance. Together with his father, he decided to hire a second-generation Motoru Lublin. - In our family, this is how it is that we first have to take a few steps back to achieve goals later - mark Robert Kądzior, who is currently a trainer at the MOSP Białystok Academy.
Dolcan's bankruptcy
In Lublin, he spent a year and a half. He was the basic player. In 41 games he scored seven goals and scored several assists. In the summer of 2014, he returned to Białystok. However, besides the 13-minute episode in the match against Lechia (2: 2, the 1st queue of the 2014/15 season) he played mainly in the III-league reserves. In the spring he went on loan to Ząbek, where he was supposed to fight for the first league with Dolcan. It was not over a year, and the club broke up (due to financial problems of the main sponsor) and withdrew from the competition. - Then you had to decide what to do next. Damian moved to the last team of the first division, Wigry Suwałki. We took a bit of a risk. Later it turned out to be a great choice - says the player's father.
In the spring round of the 2015/16 season, Kądzior helped maintain Wigry. In the next games, the Suwalki team was a revelation of the Polish Cup (they reached the semi-final), and Kądzior himself was on the pitch of the first league. He scored 14 goals and had 15 assists in 33 appearances. - For me Damian is a model of a footballer and a man. He is extremely hardworking and ambitious, and at the same time intelligent. It's great outside the pitch. He always wants to prove something to someone, which is why he was getting better from training to training, from match to match - says Dominik Nowak, today coach of Miedz Legnica, and in the previous season, coach Wigry Suwałki. - He realizes that small things give the final result. He practiced shots from a distance, prepared proper nutrition, talked to me a lot about how to play. He never broke down in life with small failures. When it comes to preparing a footballer for the profession, it is on the absolute top. Incredibly conscious boy - adds Nowak.
Touch him did not see.
In summer, several clubs asked him. He was already preliminarily consulted with Cracovia. Some sources even reported that they had signed a contract with the Belt. At that time, Michał Probierz became the trainer of the Kraków club, hence the man who did not bet on him in Jagiellonia. - I want to dispel all speculations, because I heard that a lot of myths arose in this matter. I know my friend with my Coach. We are on "you". I do not have any regrets about him that Damian did not play with him. Just as I became coach of Cracovia, I normally called and talked. I asked him how he sees his son's future. We did not argue. It turned out that Damian eventually got to Górnik Zabrze and it turned out to be a hit. And who knows, maybe he and Michal will work together. Life writes different scenarios - admits Kądzior senior.
On Friday the winger received from Adam Nawałka a calling to represent Poland. Already on Thursday there were leaks that one of Górnik's players would keep the nomination. This is also meant to be an award for the whole club for a great start to the season. In the house of the Kądzior family, they will remember this day for a long time. - Joy was enormous. I miss words a little longer. It is a beautiful culmination of this difficult Damian's path. Award for years of hard work. I am incredibly proud of my son. After the first emotions, we approach it calmly. Calling is not a debut yet, but if God gives, maybe Damian will stay in the national team for a longer time - ends Robert Kądzior.
Dominik Nowak, Copper Trainer, Legnica, ran Damian Kądziora in Wigry Suwałki. He feels best on the rightFor me, calling Damian is a very great satisfaction. I know what he can do because I saw him not only in matches, but also in training. For him, everything he has achieved is not enough. He has very big potential, he is not afraid to play in combination. He improved a lot in Suwałki in a defensive game. He can predict a lot on the pitch. He can make use of this left leg. He sees a lot during the game. His biggest strengths are a long-range shot and an offensive, field-winning pass, for the opponent's defense line. It is also extremely durable and efficient when it comes to physical features. He is very self-critical. He likes to listen to others. Is open to comments. It's best to find the right help. Then he can go down from the wing and hit with his left leg or give it. This boy never rests on his laurels. At the same time, he is an amazing optimist. He advised me before going to Górnik Zabrze and asked if it would be a team in which he would find himself. I thought it would make a great move. I thought that it would fit the style of Brosz's game and I was not wrong.
