Founded in 1945, Dinamo Zagreb were part of the inaugural Yugoslavian League, finishing runners-up the same year. Since then, the club has spent its entire existence in the top flight and is the most successful club in Croatian history, with 25 national championships and 21 national cup titles to its name. The Modri (the Blues) are reigning champions for the eighth year in a row as of 2013, and are used to the taste of success.
This year's youth team has a lot to live up to: their predecessors have done well in the MUPC World Finals, finishing 3rd in 2004 and 6th in 2012. The current young squad in Manchester have been playing together for the past five years, and train six times each week.
"There are a few enormously influential players in the team and we expect them to go on to become big stars", said Coach Krešimir Gojun. "This is a team that works well together. They are all strong, skillful and physical when necessary, but their extra strength lies in their team spirit.
"The European stage in Slovenia was a truly amazing experience. I knew we had a good chance but this tournament is as much about passion and determination as skill. By the time you reach the European Qualifiers, all competing teams are national champions, so you have to find something extra, and our boys did that. They earned their place in Manchester to play against some of the best teams in the world and now, here they are, ready to play in the final.
"The players are all very excited and motivated to play against AC Milan at Old Trafford tomorrow. Coming to Manchester we had hoped to make it to the knock-out stages - beating our previous record would have been a nice bonus. Now they have reached the final at Old Trafford, it is a dream come true for them."
