Panathinaikos and Dinamo Zagreb kicked off this straight battle for the right to contest the bronze-medal match in combative fashion but it was the Greek team which threatened first through Kantri Merai, but his first-time volley from Spyridon Papanikolaou's lofted through-ball dribbled disappointingly wide of the far left post. Within the space of two minutes Greek pair Anastasios Chatzigiovannis and Alexios Touroukis both took pot-shots fro the edge of the area but Dinamo keeper Adrijan Semper gathered easily on both occasions.

After this early pressure from Pana it was Dinamo's turn to exert some authority on the game and they contrived to take the lead from their very first attack, Jelic heading Fintic's right-wing corner down and into the far left side of the goal. Three minutes later and Dinamo had two goals from two attacks when Pana defender Evangelos Theocharis' misplaced pass was pounced upon by left-winger Visic who cut in and took his time in slipping the ball past Sokratis-Georgios Vasilas and inside the near left post from just eight metres out.

Dinamo were really dominating now and Visic nearly stretch the Croatians' lead further, but his surge into the area after receiving the ball from Fintic ended in Vasilas blocking his shot from a tight angle. Pana managed to regroup to an extent though and strung together a lovely passage of play which only ended when Chatzigiovannis' shot was easily dealt with by Semper.

The next goal was always going to be crucial and it fell Dinamo's way just before half-time when the outstanding Fintic finished off a clinical Dinamo counter-attack by converting Visic's left-wing cross from close range. Pana looked shell-shocked and the half-time break in which they made three changes did nothing to improve their mood, Dinamo coming straight out and scoring a fourth through Visic who tapped in a rebound after substitute Rasic's shot from the left had been saved but not gathered by Vasilas.

Dinamo were utterly in control and they extended their lead to 5-0 in the 65th minute when Rasic strode in on goal from the left and finished confidently inside the near left post. That completed the scoring because although Petar Botica's foul on Papanikolaou gave the Greeks a penalty in the 70th minute, Semper flung himself to his left to palm away Panathinaikos captain Balatsouras' right-footed spotkick.

The game ended on another sour note for Pana when substitute Antonios Oikonomopoulos was dismissed for two yellow-card offences and the defeat means Pana can only compete for 5th place in the tournament's positional play-off matches on Easter Monday, while Dinamo at least secure the chance to win the bronze medal in their debut appearance in the Puskás-Suzuki Cup.
