On Tuesday night, the news came that Hammarby's offensive star Alexander Kacaniklic, 29, is on his way to Hajduk Split.
A deal that is estimated to give Bajen around SEK 7.5 million.
FotbollDirekt's editor-in-chief Mathias Lühr outlines what it means for Hammarby and Kacaniklic himself.
Alexander Kacaniklic is on his way to Hajduk Split - are you surprised?
- Yes and no. That the situation for Kacaniklic in Hammarby was not one hundred percent, we have been able to read from both the game on the field - which stagnated and got worse last season - and the frustration in the coaching criticism he directed at Stefan Billborn after the derby loss against AIK (0-3) in September last year.
- The parties smoked a peace pipe, but the feeling has not been clear since. Sometimes it simply does not click, even though there are two wise people who want to reach the same goal.
- At the same time, Kacaniklic is almost 30 years old, his 2020 was not close to the Kacaniklic we saw join the national team almost ten years ago - and maybe I thought the last European train had passed. But I'm happy for him.
How do you see the deal?
- Very good for both parties. Hammarby gets a pile of money and you have a nicely offensively balanced rooster even without Alexander Kacaniklic. I'm sure Stefan Billborn wants as good a squad as possible, but it's clear that a deal like this can also ease the pressure on the coach's side.
- Kacaniklic in turn gets another adventure in professional life, and I hope he can flourish again, to the fine player we saw in 2019 when Bajen's attacking machine was largely unstoppable.
How does this affect Hammarby's chances in 2021?
- A little, of course. But as I mentioned, there are offensive forces (which actually also occasionally went before Kacaniklic already last year) in the squad.
- It can also open up opportunities to record other and younger offensive players, such as Akinkunmi Amoo. A talent that Hammarby believes in enormously, but who has not yet had time to show how good he can be in match play.
