After only four matches, Ivan Perisic is already the fans' new darling at Club Brugge.

He has adjusted to life and settled in at Club Brugge improbably fast. It's even more improbable considering he transferred right at the end of the transfer window.

The promise Perisic began to show in the second half of last season at Roeselare, has continued to be confirmed at Club Brugge. After scarcely four matches it can already be said that the club struck gold with his transfer from Sochaux.

Against Zulte Waregem you were the absolute ace, Ivan.

“You think so? I still think I played the first three matches better. But as a team we were very good. We won and we’re now top.”

Anyway, you got off to a flying start at the club. But actually had a very turbulent summer.

“I just finished playing four matches in ten days. I’m even surprised myself that I managed to play this well. I’m happy with where my fitness is at, because my preparation was far from 100% in order. I finished at Roeselare and then for a month and a half I didn’t have much. I trained at Sochaux, however, with the A-team, but played very little in the preparations apart from one friendly."

Why didn’t you get your chance at Sochaux? You proved yourself at Roeselare.

"The first day that I was (back) at Sochaux, I had a conversation with the coach (Francis Gillot). He said to me that he followed me at Roeselare and that I showed some good things. He said I could remain, but that he wouldn’t stand in my way if I chose to go to another club. With that I knew everything. That was a sign that he had no faith in me and that I had to look elsewhere."

Then why did it last until August 26th for you to end up at Club Brugge? Especially since you didn’t cost that much?

"In April, May and June there was already interest from several clubs, but there were always some doubts. Either from the club, or from myself. I wanted to make the correct choice after my time at Sochaux. I needed to make the right decision."

How close were you to Hertha Berlin?

"Very close. But the day after their sporting director, Hoeness, said that he wanted me, he was dismissed. His replacement allowed me to come for a test period but told me that he didn’t need any more players in my position. Eventually it all turned out for the best: Hertha stand last in the Bundesliga and Club Brugge stand in first. Eventually everything fell into place with Club Brugge. I know the competition and game here more than I would have at Hertha."

Was it not cumbersome to have to wait so long?

"It was very cumbersome. It didn’t bring me down though. I think in the end I ended up costing around 200,000 euros. That really isn’t that much. That is as much as Sochaux paid for me in 2007. It’s their debt: I played 2.5 years and got absolutely no chance to prove myself there. One time I sat on the bench, and that was it."

Thursday you play in France against Toulouse. Do you go into that match with any sort of vengeance on your mind?

I want to shine in that match. And I hope that the coach of Sochaux follows the match at home on his couch in front of the TV and sees me play. I'm already grateful to him for one thing. He played me as a defensive midfielder. That is not my best position, but I learned a lot.

navijaci trabzona svrsavaju na gabrica......barem oni koje ja poznam..........

Drago mi je zbog Drage, al malo mi se zgadio kako je isforsirao taj transfer u Trabzon. Svaka njemu cast, uvijek je davao sve od sebe, ali otici iz voljenog kluba u prosjecnog turskog prvoligasa... Znam da su pare u pitanju, ali opet.
