LaLiga has announced that Matchday 31 (Matchday 35 in Segunda División) will be a ‘retro’ matchday. Teams from both the First and Second Divisions will take the field wearing vintage kits.
This retro approach will also extend to broadcast graphics, the match ball, and even the referees’ uniforms. The campaign was approved by a large majority of clubs for two seasons.
Only Real Madrid has not joined the project. One of the key events will take place on March 19, when all clubs will present their retro kits during Madrid Fashion Week under the slogan “A collection that never goes out of style.”
The event will last around 90 minutes, with clubs using international models, club legends, ambassadors, and influencers to showcase the new jerseys. The retro collection will also be available for fans to purchase. Some clubs already have vintage clothing lines, while others may launch new merchandise lines as a result of this initiative.
On average, each club is ordering 1,500–2,000 jerseys, with an estimated 70,000–80,000 kits expected to reach the market. This could generate between €6 million and €7 million for the clubs.
