Lyon midfielder Mahamadou Diarra has ended speculation linking him with a move to Old Trafford.
The
Mali international has been strongly tipped to join United in
recent months, with the Reds purportedly favourites for his
signature as recently as last week.
However, Real Madrid's
interest in the player has been equally well documented, and
the 24-year-old has now stated his preference to move to Spain.
He told French sports paper L'Equipe:
"I finally had a phone call with chairman Jean-Michel Aulas. I told him
my desire to join Real. Obviously he didn’t hear me.
"A club like Real offers you the chance to wear their shirt; it happens just once in a career."
Diarra
is adamant he will do whatever it takes to secure a transfer to Madrid,
and may even go on strike to push the move through.
He conceded:
"I am keen to do anything, not resuming training-sessions with Lyon or
even leaving for Mali if the club doesn’t negotiate with Real.
"It is very clear in my mind, I want to leave for Real."
