Ecuadorian striker in talks with Dinamo
Zvjezdan Cvetkovic spots a potential signing at El Nacional
With the winter transfer window at the bay, rumors are something
that will be a part of our every average football day. The most
interesting one of the day arrives from Ecuador where Dinamo Zagreb's
sport director Zvjezdan Cvetkovic is looking for players who might be
potential signings. Well, according to agent Luis Aguerre one striker
has satisfied Cvetkovic's requirements and the first contact is already
made.
Cristiano “El Chucho” BenitezThe player's name
is Cristiano Benitez and his nickname is “El Chucho”. At the moment
he's one of the best players at Ecuadorian top flight outfit El
Nacional which is currently second in their Primera Division, following
top placed Barcelona. Currently 20, Benitez started his professional
career three years ago and since then the made 63 league performances
and scored 19 goals plus became an Ecuadorian internationals. This
season he has netted 13 goals and is 2nd on the list of top
goal-scorers in Ecuadorian championship, behind Argentinean Hernar
Barcos from Olmedo. The youngster also made a debut for the national
side in August 2005 from when on he made 6 international appearances
and scored one goal. The irony is that when he made his last appearance
for Ecuador in September 2006 against Peru, he actually was the scorer
of the only goal for his team.
Castillo good example of Ecuadorian talent
An
interesting fact about Benitez is that he's playing for the same club
that Serbian Champion Crvena zvezda signed their Ecuadorian midfielder
Segudno Castillo from last summer. Castillo who's 24 and a standard
international is a central midfielder and he quickly adapted to the
“Ex-Yu” football style. If Benitez plays in similar style or possesses
similar mentality, adapting to Croatian football wont be a problem. In
case it does, he can always call his former teammate in Belgrade for
some advice.
