BP-Ford World Rally Team driver Marcus Gronholm rolled his car nine kilometers into stage four. The Focus RS 06 has a broken driveshaft, and cannot be removed from the ditch. Gronholm and his co-driver Timo Rautiainen were unharmed in the incident, but the Ford team is dealt a devastating blow in the hunt for a third consecutive victory for Gronholm.
The repsonsibility of carrying the load now lays on the shoulder of Mikko Hirvonen, who has held second position since the event began. It is unclear at the moment if Gronholm will be able to rejoin the event tomorrow under SupeRally regulations.
