  • 🔪 Graphic ritual described: the execution allegedly involves cutting a line up the back, removing/levering ribs outward, and draping lungs over the rib-frames to resemble wings.
  • 📜 Historicity doubts: sources are late, literary, and possibly biased (Christian authors demonizing Vikings); archaeological proof is lacking.
  • ⚙️ Medical/technical problems: anatomically it’s possible but implausible to perform as described—scapula obstruction, massive bleeding from intercostal arteries, and loss of chest negative pressure (pneumothorax) make keeping a victim alive for the final spectacle unlikely.
  • 🤷 Conclusion: the blood eagle functions powerfully as myth and symbol—maybe performed in some form, but the dramatic, breath-filled “wing” tableau is almost certainly exaggerated.

Why Booby Traps In Vietnam Were So Terrifying

  • 🪖 April 12th, 1968, Vietnam: Acting Sergeant Richard Dutelli leads his unit to set up camp at Elz Chaon, facing fear, explosions, and ambushes.
  • 🐕 A German Shepherd trained to detect the Vietkong triggers a hidden trip wire, causing an explosion that kills Private Daryl Bruce Helm, 18, highlighting the deadly nature of booby traps.
  • ⚠️ Booby traps were a hallmark of the Vietnam War; initially a term for harmless pranks, they became lethal devices used extensively by the Vietkong.
  • 🌿 Punji sticks: sharpened wooden stakes, sometimes poisoned, placed in pits or traps to wound, slow down, and incapacitate American soldiers.
  • 🪓 Complex traps included pivoted spike boards, bamboo whips, gravity-based maces, tiger traps, and dart-firing devices, often designed to maim and instill fear.
  • 🐍 Jungle wildlife was weaponized: venomous snakes and scorpions hidden in traps to intimidate or injure soldiers.
  • 💣 Explosive traps were made from captured American, Soviet, Chinese, and old WWII ordnance; grenades, mines, and homemade devices caused maximum casualties.
  • 🚁 Helicopter traps: trip wires linked to explosives targeting landing zones to kill medics, pilots, and evacuating soldiers.
  • 🎯 Booby traps were cheap, highly effective, and strategically aimed to create psychological terror, slow enemy forces, and increase US casualties.
  • 🧠 Psychological toll: constant fear and paranoia led to stress, apathy, risk-taking, and sometimes atrocities against civilians, fueling further conflict.
  • 📜 The use of booby traps reflects the Vietkong’s strategic asymmetrical warfare: exploiting terrain, American tactics, and prolonged attrition to offset conventional disadvantages.
  • ⚔️ Vietnam War’s deadly landscape: crude but deadly traps shaped both the physical and mental battlefield, proving even simple weapons could defeat advanced firepower.

Gadno.

https://sh.reddit.com/r/hredditkalendar/comments/1ormkfe/njema%C4%8Dki_carski_feldmar%C5%A1al_koji_je_porazio_srbiju/

Plavi Max).

Sarah Paine — How Russia sabotaged China's riseSummary

  • 🌍 Russo-Chinese relations: The relationship between Russia and China is complex and historically contentious, with periods of imbalance in power, from Russia’s strength and China’s weakness in the 19th century to China's rise and Russia's decline in the 20th century.
  • 🏞️ Historical background: Russia and China were late to discover each other, with initial relations marked by Russian expansion for fur trade, leading to tensions over territorial boundaries and imperial ambitions.
  • 📜 Imperial strategies: Both empires employed similar strategies to avoid two-front wars, destabilizing neighbors and absorbing territories. This often led to overexpansion and internal instability.
  • ⚖️ Territorial losses for China: During the 19th and 20th centuries, Russia took advantage of China’s internal turmoil (like the Opium Wars) and expanded its territory, including large parts of Central Asia and the Pacific coastline.
  • 🏯 Manipulation of China’s struggles: Russia’s actions during the Opium Wars and the First Sino-Japanese War destabilized China, leaving them with significant territorial losses and foreign control over Chinese areas.
  • 🛠️ Soviet influence: The Bolsheviks, after coming to power in Russia, used propaganda to present themselves as allies to China, while continuing to manipulate Chinese territorial and political issues for their benefit.
  • 💥 Cold War tension: After the Soviet Union's decline, Mao Zedong and Nikita Khrushchev’s rivalry deepened, with tensions surrounding Taiwan, the Vietnam War, and differing approaches to international communism.
  • 💣 Sino-Soviet split: By the 1960s, China, having developed nuclear weapons, became more assertive about regaining lost territories, leading to a border war and a shift in their relationship with Russia from cooperation to competition.
  • 🔥 Korean War dynamics: Russia sought to use the Korean War to tie China to them, slowing China’s rise, while Mao used it to further isolate China, forcing them into a dependent position with Russia.
  • 🔄 Post-Soviet decline: After the Soviet Union’s collapse, Russia’s territorial and economic decline set the stage for China’s rise, with significant political, economic, and territorial consequences for Russia.
  • 💰 Economic struggles: Russia’s reliance on oil revenues and poor economic management under leaders like Gorbachev led to the decline of the Soviet Union, and the loss of empire and territorial influence.
  • 🗺️ Russian territorial losses: Maps show how Russia’s territorial extent significantly shrank from its peak post-WWII to its post-Soviet state, leading to years of instability and a diminished power status.
  • 🛡️ Russia’s insecurity: Russia’s continued emphasis on territorial expansion and security concerns reflects a longstanding insecurity about being threatened by neighbors, while historically posing existential threats to its own neighbors.
  • 🏰 Russian Expansion: Russia's history of territorial expansion, including the elimination of Khanates and neighboring states (e.g., Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania).
  • 🏚️ Poland's Fate: Poland's repeated partitioning and the genocide during Soviet occupation after WWII, leading to the displacement of millions.
  • 💥 Soviet Control: The Soviet Union's post-WWII strategy of controlling Eastern Europe through military presence, purges, and the spread of communism.
  • 💣 Soviet Purges: Notable figures like Andrey Vyshinsky and Kliment Voroshilov orchestrated mass executions and purges across Eastern Europe.
  • 💰 Economic Model: The Soviet economic model (communism) failed, causing widespread discontent and resentment in Eastern Europe.
  • 🌍 Soviet Empire: Russia's use of imperial tactics despite promoting anti-imperialism, including occupation and ethnic cleansing in various regions.
  • 🇨🇳 Chinese Expansion: China’s territorial ambitions in places like Taiwan, India, and the South China Sea, with a focus on nationalism and control over its empire.
  • 💣 Sino-Soviet Tension: Despite shared communist ideologies, tensions arose due to both countries' imperial ambitions and competition for dominance in Asia and Eurasia.
  • 💥 Putin's Strategy: Putin’s focus on territorial expansion, particularly in Ukraine, is viewed as a continuation of Russian imperialism. His approach contrasts with the West’s democratic model.
  • 🌍 China vs. Russia: Russia’s weakening influence and China’s growing strength, especially with the Belt and Road Initiative and territorial ambitions in Siberia.
  • ⚔️ Cold War Dynamics: The risks of a potential conflict between great powers, with nuclear weapons posing a serious threat to global stability.
  • 📉 Nationalism and Empire: Both Russia and China use nationalism to bolster support, but this exacerbates tensions with neighbors and internal minorities.
  • 🌐 Geopolitical Concerns: The Soviet model of maintaining control over territory via military and economic means is in sharp contrast to the West's democratic and market-driven approach.
  • 🧩 Ideological Conflicts: Stalin's view of communism and geopolitics, prioritizing Russian dominance over the spread of communism globally.
  • 🏛️ Stalin’s China Strategy: Stalin’s complex relationship with China, seeing it as a subordinate communist ally, but not as a competitor for global leadership.
  • 🧐 Sino-Soviet Split: Even if Stalin had lived longer, the Sino-Soviet split would still have been inevitable due to underlying grievances.
  • 💀 Dictator's Deaths: Stalin's death weakened the Soviet system, leading to succession struggles. This is often seen with long-term dictators like Putin.
  • ⚔️ Korean War: Stalin's death played a key role in ending the Korean War sooner than expected.
  • 🇨🇳 Chinese Civil War: The Chinese Civil War was one of the most significant events of the 20th century, reshaping China’s future and its role on the world stage.
  • 🤝 Roosevelt's China Vision: Roosevelt treated China as a great power, wanting them in the UN, despite British skepticism and China's lack of military status.
  • 🔪 Stalin's Strategic Moves: Stalin prevented the killing of Chiang Kai-shek in 1936, securing Chinese cooperation against Japan, which turned out to be a brilliant decision.
  • 🧠 Dictators' EQ: Long-term dictators like Stalin and Saddam Hussein have high emotional intelligence (EQ), helping them maintain power through manipulation and control.
  • 🔐 Overlapping Security Agencies: Stalin used multiple, competing security agencies to ensure better control and information, keeping potential rivals in check.
  • 🏭 Dictatorships and Prosperity: Dictatorships can maintain power, but they do not create prosperity. Wealth comes from international trade and cooperation.
  • 🧳 Hitler vs Stalin: Hitler’s reckless decisions contrasted with Stalin’s more calculated moves, though Stalin’s choices also had serious consequences in the long run.
  • 💥 Russo-Chinese Future: While China and Russia have complementary resources, tension may arise due to Putin’s aggressive moves and China’s increasing leverage in trade.
  • 🌍 Geopolitical Strategy: The world must manage relationships with huge nations like Russia and China, minimizing fallout by strengthening allies and partners economically.
  • 🏦 Marshall Plan: After WWII, the U.S. invested in European recovery, understanding that economic growth for allies benefits everyone in the long term.
  • 🫱 Kindness in Politics: A call for kindness and avoiding humiliation in international relations, emphasizing the importance of mutual respect and collaboration.
