Ljubicic was adamant that it was Blake’s good play and not his bad play that contributed to the one sided result.
“It was not my fault, James was just too good”, Ljubicic insisted.
“I didn’t feel like I played really terrible, it was just that he was too good. That’s exactly what I told him after the match; he was playing incredible. He was reading my serves perfectly, and it’s very hard for me to play when somebody is returning like him. I was 5-0 down in the first set and lost the second 6-1; was definitely one way traffic today. Not much I can say really.”
Blake who has beaten Ljubicic for the first time in 5 attempts recognised the importance taking advantage of the Croat’s poor form and keeping him out of the match right to the end:
“My game comes and goes with my forehand and his with the serve; I took advantage of that and put more and more pressure on him and was able to keep it up the whole match. Sometimes against top players you can’t do that, they force their way back into it. But today I kept that up; it was a combination of me playing well and him not playing his best match.”
