The reason for changing the country for Sesil are financial. The Kazakh
Tennis Federation will pay Sesil 65 000 USD per year and part of the
prize money.
The statement for change of the country was made by the father and
manager of Sesil Radoslav Karatantchev during a popular talk show of
Nova TV The Hour of Milen Tsvetkov.
"We had negotiations with the federation [Bulgarian Tennis federation]
and even with Vesela Lecheva [the chair of the Governmental Agency of
Sport]. The result is only promises and nothing real. During the two
years while she [Sesil Karatantcheva] was not playing she was
completely forgotten", Karatantchev said. He added that their expenses
are about 12 000 USD per month parth of which are also the
reimbursement that Sesil owes to WTA. The General Secretary of the
Bulgarian Tennis Federation Georgi Dontchev said that the Bulgarian
federation was supporting Karatantcheva constantly but Sesil's father
denied it.
"The contract with Kazakhstan is related only to professionalism and
survival and has nothing to do with the patriotism. The agreement is
for 3 years and will guarantee the financial security of Sesil. After
the agreement expires Sesil could again play for Bulgaria. There are
also articles that allow preliminary closing of the agreement. We
received an offer from the Bulgarian Tennis Federation for the
participation of Sesil at FedCup. They offered us about 7500 Euro which
would not solve the current problems at all" Radoslav Karatantchev said
