Djokovic has won five titles this year and reached his first Grand Slam final

He took time out to join BBC 5 Live tennis correspondent Jonathan Overend to answer questions sent in by 606 users.

Q. Novak, it's been a great year for you - five titles, one Grand Slam final and two semi-finals - how much has it taken out of you?

The season is not over! I have the Masters Cup in Shanghai coming up, my debut in that event, a new experience. But after that I am going somewhere nobody can find me!

I'll get a good rest for probably two weeks so I can get ready for next season. I didn't expect to do so well at the start of this year but I think I've shown that I deserve to be here at number three in the world.

Yes, it's been an exhausting year but the hard work has paid off.

Q. How did you cope with the pressure in the US Open final against Roger Federer, compared with, say, serving for the Miami or Montreal title?

It's very difficult to describe.

A Grand Slam is something special with 128 players, two weeks, a lot of motivation and pressure, with so many people coming to watch.

There's the 'show' and the atmosphere and the Americans are the best in the world for that.

Stepping out on centre court to see 23,000 people rise from their seats to greet myself and Roger Federer was an amazing feeling. Very special.

Q. You had many chances in that match - set points which you didn't take. Do you think that might hold you back in the future?

OK, there are some regrets because of those missed opportunities. There were some points I could have played better and some points which were very close like the set point in set two which went to Hawkeye.

But the way I look at it I could have gone out in the second round when I was 2-1 and a break down against Radek Stepanek.

I will take all the negative and positive things and try to win next time!

Q. Earlier in the year at Wimbledon, you won so many long matches, many delayed by rain, and then had to retire during your semi-final with Nadal. Do you regret not carrying on?

Actually when I turn around I do feel sorry that I couldn't continue with that match but I think I did the right thing to retire. I couldn't hold on anymore.

Third round I played for four days and then it was three hours, four hours with Hewitt, five hours with Baghdatis. I felt at that moment I could go on no longer.

Q. You're already world number three. Do you think it's possible to crack the top two in 2008?

The way Roger Federer is playing, he's not planning on giving up first place for a while. And Nadal, three years at number two in the world, I'm sure he's going to be trying to knock Roger off the top.

But I am leading the next group and I will try to maintain my high level of performance.

My lifetime goal is to get to number one in the world and if I don't make it next year then I won't be sad. Maybe in five years, that would be fine.

Q. Going back a few years, one e-mailer remembers watching you in Wimbledon qualifying and you had something attached to your nose because of breathing trouble. Are you completely over those problems?

The main problem was deviation of the nose. I realised the problem was really serious after a US Open match against Monfils when I was collapsing on the court.

I had known about the problem before then but hadn't played really long matches. So at the end of the 2005 season I went to Milan to have surgery. It took a couple of months before things were right but now everything is fine.

Q. What is your favourite band?

The Rolling Stones and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

Q. Who are your friends on the ATP tour?

I'm pretty friendly with most guys but I would say especially with the players from Serbia and from Croatia.

Q. Who is going to be your next impression? (Djokovic is famous for his impressions)

I will keep that a secret!

Q. Can you do Andy Murray yet?

(laughs) I am working on it!

Q. The beard didn't last long? What were you thinking...?

A change of image, nothing else!

Q. Now the big question. Everyone wants to know why do you bounce the balls so many times before you serve?

A lot of people ask me what is going on with the ball bouncing but it's difficult to say because it has become a habit.

On the important points I try to focus more and with that focus comes the ball bouncing.

Sometimes 20 times, sometimes even 30 times. I think it happens more on the clay because getting the serve is even more important so I can create the point.

I know it annoys my opponents but I'm not trying to irritate anybody, just trying to focus.
