Serb teenager Novak Djokovic scored a crushing 6-0, 6-1 win over Czech Jan Hajek in his first round-robin match. Hajek, who lost his opening round-robin match to Australian Alun Jones, has been eliminated from the tournament.
Frenchman Richard Gasquet, 20, dropped just three games in a 6-2, 6-1 demolition of German Florian Mayer in his first round-robin match.
Djokovic, 19, finished 2006 ranked No. 16 after a 40-18 match record (up from 11-11 in 2005), which included a quarterfinal appearance at Roland Garros. Last season he won two titles (Amersfoort and Metz) from three finals (rup, Metz).
Against Hajek Djokovic saved the lone break point he faced and dropped just five points on his first serve. |
