The 2011 IIHF World Championship will be the 75th IIHF World Championship, an annual international ice hockey tournament. It will take place between the 29th of April and the 15th of May 2011 in Slovakia. The games will be played in the Orange Arena in Bratislava, and Steel Aréna in Košice. The Czech team is the defending champion.

This will be the first time the independent Slovakia will host the World Championships. However, this will be the third time that Bratislava has co-hosted the World Championships. The first two times were 1959 and 1992, each time with Prague, and while part of Czechoslovakia.

Orange Arena (Slovak: Zimný štadión Ondreja Nepelu), former Samsung Arena, is an arena in Bratislava, Slovakia. It is primarily used for ice hockey and it is the home arena of HC Slovan Bratislava. It opened in 1940 and held 8,350 people until its full reconstruction started in 2009. The reconstructed arena is due to open in spring 2011. It will have increased capacity of 10,000 spectators. In the past Samsung arena was called ST Arena and T-Com Arena. So-called "reconstruction" under command of SZLH president's company costs 96 million €.[1] Beside the reconstruction SZLH president built a new hotel next to arena, which was built without building permit in the beginning.[2] In this hotel will be accommodated Slovak and Czech ice-hockey players and team staff at the IHWC 2011.

The Stadium is named in honour of Ondrej Nepela, Slovak figure skater who competed for Czechoslovakia in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and he is the 1972 Winter Olympics figure skating winner.

An NHL pre-season game was held at the Samsung Arena between HC Slovan Bratislava and the Tampa Bay Lightning on September 30, 2008. Tampa Bay won 3-2 in overtime.

It will be one of the two hosting venues for the 2011 IIHF World Championship. The stadium will have the name Orange Arena, but only for the time of World Championship 2011 29 April 2011 to 15 May 2011[3] Other being the Steel Arena in Košice

Steel Aréna - Košický štadión L. Trojáka (English: The Steel Arena - Ladislav Troják Stadium in Košice) is the new home arena of the ice hockey club HC Košice.

It was open on February 24, 2006. Its capacity is 8,343 seats and was named in honour of the general sponsor of the club - the U. S. Steel Košice (a member of the United States Steel Corporation, U.S.A.) and also in honour of Ladislav Troják, in Košice born hockey player, who was the first Slovak and World Champion in the national team of Czechoslovakia.

Steel Aréna will be one of the venues for the 2011 IIHF World Championship, which will be hosted by Bratislava and Košice.

fala na otvaranju ove teme... cekao sam vec neko vrijeme (opa, briem da je ovo bila rima neka), ugl. prije nego sto pocnemo o elitnoj divizji, bilo bi zgodno rec da su promociju za sljedecu godinu iz 1. u elitnu diviziju osigurali Italija i Kazakhstan, da su iz 1. ispali estonija i španjolska, a u prvu ulaze rumunji :( i australci... http://www.iihf.com/channels-11/iihf-world-championship-wc11/homeiihf/exhibition-games.html ... ovo je i link na pripremne utakmice odigrane i koje ce se jos odigrati, ne kazuju puno jer su sastavi svakakvi

Zbog čega se SP uvijek održava dok još traje sezona u NHL-u?? Meni bezvezna odluka,zbog toga imamo samo ZOI kao natjecanje na kojem sve repke sudjeluju u najjačim sastavima,a složit ćemo se da je jedno pošteno natjecanje u 4 godine premalo..

Možda se ne želi stvarati konkurncija OI turniru. Ovako najviše gube Kanađani i Ameri jer njima igraju treći ili četvrti sastavi.

po meni je bolje pitanje zasto NHL pocinje drugi tjedan 10.mj, a sve EU lige pocetkom rujna... a mislim da bi bilo neozbiljno cekat kraj najkasnijih playoff finala na kugli zemaljskoj radi 2 ekipe da bi se hokej igrao u 6./7.mj kad i nogometna prvenstva svake 2 godine

mislim da kanađani jedini baš i ne gube puno... oni imaju gomilu dobrih igrača koji svake godine ne uspiju doč do playoffa ili ispadnu u prvoj rundi, dok neke manje hokejaske nacije znaju popusit kad im se zalomi da im i ono malo NHLovaca ode daleko u doigravanju

ne gube samo Kanadjani, gube svi... Cehima opet nece doci 15 igraca iz HNL, no ove godine su nabrijani, igraju skoro na domacem ledu, Jagr je tu i ocekivanja su velika
