He certainly was the best at the Hoop Summit (With Shabazz being late 1993,
about 5 months older than Dario and Wiggins being 1995, about 10 months
younger). Yes, that includes Nerlens Noel who may be a better NBA prospect (I
say MAY) and Wang Zhelin (who, while he had a great game, I am still not sure
about in terms of long term NBA potential). Dario looked like a potential
lottery pick to me and if he were ranked with his peers in the 2012 class, he
would probably be top 5, at least in the top 10.
We will see how things go, but Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon and Andrew Wiggins
are all 1995, so what Leo Westermann is saying is probably the truth. Doubt that
Julius Randle could say he is better than Dario Saric right now and certainly no
one else in 2012 or 2013 look all that close. Even the Harrison twins, though I
do not know when they are born. Truly, the best two players behind Shabazz in
that game were on the International team in Wiggins and Saric.
To me, Saric looks like a potential high to mid lottery guy next year. I am a
tad surprised he is not getting even more hype, but I think that is probably a
good thing and could even possibly change. I like Tyler's Danilo Gallinari
comparison, though we agree that he might not be the scorer Danilo is. However,
he may indeed be a better rebounder and he certainly has great court vision. The
guy is a legit 6'10 to me, so he has great size for a 3, though his athleticism
is not world class, he certainly can move.
Is he the best teenage prospect in Europe? Hard to say, hear Mario Hezonja
might be even better. But, of teenagers not already either in the NBA or chosen
for the draft, he is the best I have seen. He had a great U-19 last summer as
well, though I know he still needs a little more experience. Still, seems to be
coming along really well and is a very passionate basketball player. He has
leadership skills and is willing to communicate, which is also a plus. He seems
to be destined to be the next European prospect to be drafted lottery barring
unforeseen injury or circumstances.
@ WingSpan: Yep, only one, was this past Saturday. Was there for the
practices and game. This was posted a while back, so maybe that is where the
confusion comes from
