Both proposals preserve the regular season as it exists now, with three groups of eight teams playing 14 games within each group. Both also retain the Final Four format of two single-game semifinals and one title game. Under both proposals, semifinalists would be determined strictly according to the competition format that is chosen, meaning that teams from the same country would no longer be obliged to play each other in the semifinals.

The first proposal also preserves the Top 16 as four groups of four teams, but would qualify two teams from each group to a new quarterfinal round consisting of three-game series between group winners and second-place teams from other groups. The second-place team of each pair would host the series opener on a Thursday, and the next two games would be scheduled the following Tuesday and Thursday on the homecourt of the Top 16 group winner. The quarterfinal winners would go to the Final Four.

The second proposal replaces the Top 16 with playoff rounds for the 16 best regular season teams as determined by existing ranking and tie-breaking rules in the Euroleague by-laws. The 16 teams would be placed in a bracket that would govern all matchups through to the final game. Once the teams are ranked, they would play five-game eighthfinals series. The first team in the rankings would play against the 16th, the second against the 15th, and so on. The series would be played in a 2-2-1 sequence in which the fifth and final game would take place at the homecourt of the higher-ranked team. Each series winner would advance to a quarterfinal round of eight teams to meet the next winner according to the bracket in a five-game series with the same 2-2-1 sequence as in the eighthfinals round. The quarterfinals winners would then advance to the Final Four.
