What NBA players are doing during lockout
Nothing happening here
With no end in sight to the NBA
lockout, the league's players have a lot of free time on their hands.
What the heck are they up to?
Checking out China
Who says NBA players don't
travel? Many have gone to China this summer on promotional tours,
including Kobe Bryant, Dwight Howard and Kevin Durant. Carmelo Anthony,
Dwyane Wade and Chris Paul (pictured) played some ball in Beijing during
a Nike event and even took part in a Chinese opera mask dance. Some stars said they'd consider playing in China's professional league if the NBA lockout continues.
Planking around
What happens when two goofball
teammates have to figure out a way to entertain themselves? Plank
warfare! Orlando Magic stars Dwight Howard and Gilbert Arenas have been
tweeting pictures of themselves "planking", a trend which involves lying
face down in unusual places. See for yourself.
Gooooaaaalllll!!!
Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant stands to lose a lot
if the lockout wipes out next season. In the meantime, he's weighing
overseas offers and even indulging his passion for soccer. And in that
sport, too, the man has skills.
A new Love?
Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Love, who led the NBA in rebounding last season, plans to play in several pro beach volleyball tournaments
this summer, including the Manhattan Beach Open in late August. Though
he's never played the sport, the 6-foot-10 Love might have it in his
genes. His uncle, Mike Love, is a member of the Beach Boys and his
father played volleyball with Wilt Chamberlain.
Card shark
Boston Celtics forward Paul Pierce spent some time in Las Vegas this July playing the World Series of Poker (find out more).
He outlasted more than half the field, making it deep into the second
day, before going all-in with a losing hand of pocket deuces.
Future NFL player?
Oklahoma City Thunder guard and
two-time slam dunk champ Nate Robinson told SLAM magazine earlier this
summer that he wanted to give the NFL a shot. Was he joking? Seahawks
coach Pete Carroll tweeted a camp invitation
to Robinson, who responded, "Coach give me a chance and I'll prove it
to u." So far, however, the former University of Washington defensive
back hasn't reported for duty.
