The 2011–12 season is Chelsea Football Club's 97th competitive season, 20th consecutive season in the Premier League, and 106th year in existence as a football club.

Team kit

The team kits for the 2011–12 season are produced by Adidas and sponsored by Samsung. The home kit was revealed on Chelsea's website on 12 April 2011.[1] The away kit was uncovered by Adidas on 9 June 2011. The shirt takes inspiration from Chelsea's heritage with design features originating from past kits used in the early 80s and reflects this with the shadow striped design on the front panel.

1977: Born in Porto on October 17.

1993: After badgering his neighbour, Sir Bobby Robson, for a job at FC Porto he is invited to work as a trainee with their youth-team coaches.

1994: Achieves UEFA C coaching licence in Scotland.

2000: Takes charge of the British Virgin Islands for two international matches. Both end in defeat.

2002: Becomes part of Jose Mourinho’s backroom staff at Porto.

2004: Follows Mourinho to Chelsea, and has a row with Liverpool’s Jamie Carragher and Barcelona manager Frank Rijkaard.  

2008: Moves with Mourinho to Inter Milan.

2009: Appointed manager of Academica in October, with club bottom of the table and without a win. Villas-Boas guides them to an 11th-place finish and a Portuguese League Cup semi-final.

2010: June 2 – Appointed manager of boyhood club Porto.

August 7 - Wins Portuguese Supercup with 2-0 victory over Benfica.

2011: April 3 – Leads Porto to their 25th league title, finishing with the biggest ever winning margin over second place (21 points).

May 18 – Porto win Europa League with a 1-0 triumph over fellow Portuguese side Braga.

May 22 – Guides Porto to a trophy treble with a comprehensive 6-2 win over Vitoria de Guimaraes in Portuguese Cup final.

June 21 – Porto confirm Villas-Boas has tendered his resignation and his contract will be terminated once his 15 million euros release clause has been paid.

NAJMLAĐI trener u povijesti Premierlige, 33-godišnji Portugalac Andre Villas-Boas, u srijedu je predstavljen na Stamford Bridgeu kao novi trener Chelseaja.

"Nema nikakve sumnje da glavnim izazovom u Chelseaju smatram nastavak pobjeđivanja. Osoba sam koja je gladna uspjeha i zauvijek želim ostati takav", izjavio je mladi trener, koji inače nikad nije igrao nogomet na bilo kakvoj natjecateljskoj razini, za Chelsea TV.

"To je ono najbitnije: nebitan je moj dolazak, bitno je da klub nastavi s uspjesima. Volio bih da svi skupa u klubu razmislimo što je napravljeno u prošlih šest godina i što bi moglo biti napravljeno u šest sljedećih."

"Nemojte očekivati nešto od samo jednog čovjeka. Očekujte dinamičan kolektiv koji djeluje zajednički. Od navijača, preko momčadi koju će ta navijačka atmosfera hraniti, do novog načina komuniciranja i novog načina vođenja", poručio je Villas-Boas.

Mladom je treneru, kojeg je tadašnji trener FC Porta Bobby Robson zaposlio u skautskoj službi kluba kao 16-godišnjaka nakon što ga je ovaj, inače njegov ondašnji susjed, zadivio poznavanjem nogometa i engleskog jezika u jednome spontanom razgovoru na ulici, okolina u koju je došao vrlo poznata. Radio je već u Chelseaju kao pomoćnik Joseu Mourinhu u vrijeme njegova stolovanja.
