Dinamo out to finish the job

NK Dinamo Zagreb are in determined mood for the visit of FK Khazar Lenkoran
tonight having been frustrated in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League
first qualifying round tie last week.
Etto equaliser
Lenkoran forward Zaur Ramazanov had the
honour of scoring the opening goal in this season's competition to leave Dinamo
contemplating the possibility of an unexpected defeat in Azerbaijan. However,
Brazilian substitute Etto equalised within five minutes of Ramazanov's strike to
earn his side a deserved 1-1 draw. The Croatian champions were naturally buoyed
by that away goal and a subsequent 5-0 victory in Saturday's opening game of the
new domestic season at home to HNK Šibenik has raised confidence further.
Incentive indeed
Both clubs are well aware the path to
the third qualifying round, the last hurdle before the group stage, is wide open
with the winners of this tie due to face either Slovenia's NK Domžale or KF
Tirana of Albania in the second qualifying round. With the likes of Sevilla FC,
Liverpool FC and S.S. Lazio potentially lying in wait for the victorious side,
there is real incentive for Dinamo, or indeed Lenkoran on their competition bow,
to finish the job at the Maksimir Stadium.
Modrić masterful
Dinamo coach Branko Ivanković will
beithout four key men – namely defenders Ivica Vrdoljak and Vedran Ćorluka,
midfielder Franck Manga Guela and striker Tomislav Šokota – because of injury
and also has concerns about key attacker Davor Vugrinec. However, the coach has
faith in the players available. "I expect us to go through to the next round,"
he said. "We are a better team as we proved in the first game. We are a better
team and we will be victorious." Among those involved will be influential No10
Luka Modrić, who scored twice against Šibenik and is determined to improve on
his first-leg display. Lenkoran beware.
