Another day, another new kit unveiled for a 2014 World Cup participant. Following our recent previews of new Korea and Australia sets, today we shift our attention to the new Croatia national team kits, both home and away. Combining past and present, the new kits combine cutting edge performance technologies with aesthetics that pay tribute to Croatia’s 1990 birth on the international football stage.
Back in that year, Croatia played its first match as a sovereign team, independent of Yugoslavia, and the new home shirt is inspired by that first jersey. The country’s famed red-and-white checkered pattern comprises the torso of the shirt, while its distinctive red sleeves return as well. Beneath, the new shorts are done in the traditional white and the home socks sport solid blue, ensuring all three colors of the Croatian flag are present in the home uniform.
Standing in stark contrast to the home set, the new Croatian away kit employs a bright blue shade throughout most of the shirt, with red-and-white checks running in a stripe pattern from collar to the end of each sleeve. Those checks are symbolic of Croatian freedom, with white representing serenity, peace and honesty, while red is for bravery and strength. Likewise, the shorts feature the same coloring and checked stripes, while the socks anchor the look in solid blue.
