United swoop for Hernandez

 

The Red Devils revealed they have agreed terms with Chivas for the 21-year-old, and subject to a work permit, the deal will be completed on 1st July.

'Chicharito' is United's second signing for next season after Fulham defender Chris Smalling and he will become the first Mexican player to join the Old Trafford club.

As part of the deal, United will play a match to open the new 45,000 capacity Chivas Stadium in Guadalajara as part of its 2010/11 season preparations.

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson said: "I am delighted to reach agreement with Chivas to bring such an exciting young striker, who has been in such prolific form for both his club and his country.

"He will be a great addition to our squad and we look forward to welcoming our first Mexican player in the summer. We are equally excited to play our first game in Mexico, opening the magnificent new Chivas Stadium in July."

Mancini plans Hart talks

 

The England international has excelled on loan at Birmingham City this season, but manager Alex McLeish admits there is only a "slim" chance that he will remain with the club beyond the end of the season.

However, if Hart were to return to Eastlands, he would be battling with Shay Given for the goalkeeper's jersey and would surely be reluctant to risk spending much of the season on the bench given his recent high level of involvement.

Mancini said: "We have a very good goalkeeper at the club in Shay Given. Shay and Joe Hart are two of the best in the Premier League, and it is important to have two good goalkeepers.

"The Premier League season is long, and if you are playing in the Champions League, as well as the FA Cup and the League Cup, then you need the players - you need two top goalkeepers."

Hart, who is ineligible for this weekend's match between the two sides because of the terms of his loan agreement, is in with a strong chance of going to the World Cup with England.

Mancini added: "Joe could be at the World Cup - he is a good, young, strong goalkeeper. Capello knows him very well now, and if he decides on Joe, then that is a good choice.

"I'm happy for Joe that he's doing so well .... but I'm also pleased that he cannot play against us on Sunday!"
