Inter Milan captain Javier Zanetti would welcome a move for Tottenham playmaker Luka Modric.
The
Italian and European champions are in the market for a new midfielder
to replace the ageing Dejan Stankovic at the end of the season and have
been linked with signing Modric in the summer.
The Croatian star
has shone during Tottenham's thrilling UEFA Champions League campaign,
which saw a 10-man Spurs side lose 4-3 at the San Siro before they beat
Inter 3-1 at White Hart Lane to top Group A.
Modric has another three years to run on his contract so the Nerazzurri would have to splash the cash to land the 25-year-old.
But Inter veteran Zanetti believes he has all the qualities to become a success in Serie A.
"We faced Modric twice in this season's Champions League and I think he's a great player," he told Sky Sport Italia.
Interesting
"Technically, he brings an interesting dimension. He's also still young.
"And
I say this even though I prefer to talk about the players who are
already here because we are still in the running for all competitions."
Inter
and Tottenham could meet again in the Champions League quarter-finals,
with Spurs hosting AC Milan on Wednesday night with a 1-0 lead from the
away leg, while Inter will need to overturn a 1-0 deficit when they
visit Bayern Munich next week.
