'On another planet'
21 March 2011
Harry Redknapp has lavished praise on Luka Modric after another outstanding display from the Croatian on Saturday.
The 25-year-old controlled the midfield in our 0-0 draw against West Ham as we dominated in our efforts to break the deadlock.
The
three points were just out of reach on the day, but Harry was happy
with our display overall and was quick to single out Luka.
The manager said:
“Luka’s
incredible. He’s on another planet. You think teams have got good
players until you see them play against him and you realise he’s on
another level.
“Absolutely top drawer. He’s a fantastic player and a fantastic boy. I could sit and watch him play all day.”
It
was a more difficult afternoon for Jermain Defoe, who saw a number of
chances go begging as his search for a 100th Spurs goal continues.
But
Harry was happy with his striker’s contribution, adding: “That’s
football, that’s how it goes. Another day he’ll go and bang a couple in.
He had no right to score the two goals at Wolves a couple of weeks ago -
they weren’t even half chances!
“He had some good chances on
Saturday and he normally scores them. It was just one of those days, not
through lack of effort. He was bright, he was sharp, but he just
couldn’t score.”
The result leaves us four points behind
fourth-placed Manchester City with a game in hand and nine remaining our
Premier League season.
Harry continued: “It’s going to be tight
but we’re playing very well, we’re in the quarter-finals of the
Champions League and trying to get in the top four again.
“We
knew getting fourth spot would be difficult at the start of the season,
it always is, and it’s the same for Man City or anybody. But we’re still
in there fighting.”
