Rangers have been handed a boost with the news that summer signing
Nikica Jelavic will be back in the squad this weekend. The Croatian
striker is likely to play some part in the game against Hamilton, Walter
Smith has confirmed.
Jelavic has been recovering from a serious ankle injury and has not
played for the Ibrox club since the 2-1 win against Hearts in October.
Having travelled back to his homeland for rehabilitation before joining
first team training, the L4 million forward is ready to return to
action.
“Jelavic will be involved tomorrow,” Rangers manager Smith confirmed.
"I certainly don't see him being involved from the start but there's a possibility he'll have an opportunity as a sub.
"He's had a hard week's training and we'll see how he feels tomorrow
before we make a decision but he's now just about ready to come back."
The news comes at a time when Kenny Miller’s future at the club is up in
the air. Rangers accepted a bid from Birmingham City last week and
Serie A side Fiorentina are interested in the Scotland international but
no deal has been concluded for the player, who is out of contract at
the end of the season.
Miller was left out of the team to play Kilmarnock on Monday night but
Smith says he will continue to use the player, even if he commits to
joining another club at the end of the season. The current SPL top
scorer will return to the squad for the match against Hamilton.
"There has been no change as far as we are concerned, his situation is
still in the hands of Kenny and his advisors,” Smith said.
"He will be available for us tomorrow. He hasn't signed for anybody yet so he is still a Rangers player.”
