Tin Jedvaj has already established himself at Leverkusen after just three months. He has won the fans over, he will stay for at least two season. The 18-year-old Roma centre-back chose to move to Germany on a two-year loan and will try to take advantage this stint. He gave an exclusive interview to GianlucaDiMarzio.com: “I can play with people with my same age here. In Italy, I was with very experienced players, it was very hard to find room, both for me and for other youngsters.” Roma acquired him from Dinamo Zagreb in 2013 for €5M. They wanted him to grow, but he sit for the whole season. He made only two appearances, struggling to adapt to Italian football and find minutes. “I can’t say that my time in Rome was good. I didn’t play much, I just played some minutes in a couple of games. This experience in Germany is important. I can make mistakes or not, anyway it’s a different approach to football.” Bayer’s coach Roger Schmidt immediately trusted him and made him a regular starter. Jedvaj scored two goals (one own-goal) and dished an assist in five games. Two appearances and one assists in Champions League too. “Being part of this team is a great opportunity for me. The club believes in me and there are many players I can grow with. I managed to improve after every game, coming here was the best choice for me. It’s not my job to score, but I do that too when I can.” The adaptation was positive: “I’m really comfortable with everybody. There are three players from the Balkans like me: Spahic, Kresic and Drmic, I’m at ease with them. But everybody is gentle with me, they help me. The coach Schmidt is perfect for me: he believes in what I can do, he supports me and indicates where I need to improve. I have a great feeling with him and that’s the best thing that could have happened to me.”
