U utrku za jednog od najboljih nogometaša svjetskog prvenstva, francuskog ofanzivnog veznjaka Francka Riberya, uključio se i madridski Real, čiji novi predsjednik ne štedi novac u pokušajima da za sljedeću sezonu napravi momčad za pohod na vrh tablice. Izgledalo je posljednjih dana kako je Arsenal blizu realizacije ovog transfera, ali budući da je Real spreman ponuditi odštetu od čak 39 milijuna eura, Arsenal će mu teško konkurirati sa svojih 15 milijuna.
 
Najbolji vratar u nedjelju završenog svjetskog prvenstva, talijanski reprezentativac Gianluigi Buffon, blizu je realizacije transfera u redove AC Milana, unatoč brojnim ponudama iz engleske Premier lige. Vratar Juventusa u posljednje se vrijeme sve češće povezivao sa Milanom, a njegov menadžer je otkrio kako je ta opcija vrlo izgledna. Njegova vrijednost procjenjuje se na oko 38 milijuna eura.

Transfer Milana Barosa u Hamburg došao je pod znak pitanja nakon što je predsjednik Aston Ville Doug Ellis ocijenio njihovu financijsku ponudu neprihvatljivom. Čelnici Hamburga proteklog su tjedna objavili kako su zainteresirani za kupovinu 24-godišnjeg napadača, koji je u Aston Villu stigao iz Liverpoola na početku prošle sezone za 10 milijuna eura, a jučer su se tim povodom sastali sa Ellisom, no on nije bio zadovoljan ponuđenim.

 Opet pise po Engleskim novinama da su Portsmouth vrlo blizu kupovanja Srne i Farfana za 14 miliona funti za oba dvojicu.

  Real Madrid sporting director Predrag Mijatovic has confirmed the club want to sign Fabio Cannavaro and is not concerned by the defender's advancing years.

The influential centre half turns 33 in September, but Mijatovic feels new coach Fabio Capello is looking to build a winning team immediately and players of Cannavaro's calibre are imperative to that objective.

"I have said that age is secondary in modern football," Mijatovic told As. "I value that in these past two years, Cannavaro has been decisive in Juve winning two scudettos and Italy conquering the World Cup.

"His philosophy, his attitude and his desire turn him into a unique defender. We are going to do all that is possible to have him with us."

Cannavaro's Juventus colleagues Gianluca Zambrotta (29) and Emerson (30) are also wanted by Real, with Mijatovic shrugging off concerns about the age of the club's targets.

"I prefer a 30-year-old player who can be with us for two years and make us great. Madrid cannot waste time, unfortunately.

Mijatovic does not feel Real will be able to land the Juventus trio on the cheap, even if the current Serie A champions are demoted for their part in the scandal.

"It is not that simple," he continued. "They have a clause which forces us to compensate Juventus.

"The advantage is that all of them want to come to Madrid and that facilitates everything, but they will not be loans.

"We only love players to be our property, as has marked our history."

Real are also chasing Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas, Chelsea winger Arjen Robben and Milan playmaker Kaka, who new president Ramon Calderon promised to sign as part of his election manifesto.
