A long-time fan of the fleet-footed attacker, Mancini has praised Ronaldo for his consistent level of form this season.

"He's a great, really great player," Mancini told Mediaset.

"When he was young he already showed he would have a sensational future and I was convinced of his potential a long time ago.

"Now he's confirming himself on a really high level.

"A player worthy of Inter? And how!"

The Serie A leaders will lose Luis Figo in July and, following Mancini's kind words, speculation has grown that Ronaldo could emerge as his compatriot's replacement at San Siro after also succeeding Figo as the symbol of the Portuguese national side.

However, Moratti admits that prising Ronaldo from Sir Alex Ferguson's grasp would be a formidable challenge.

"Cristiano Ronaldo is really a sensational player, but he represents Man Utd and that means it would be very difficult to sign him," Moratti told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"And I also don't think for us that he is an absolute requirement.

"I enjoy the fact that Mancini thinks of this, but I repeat, we must leave him to Manchester."
