N.K. Sindjelic Trpinja are set to cause waves in Croatian football
N.K. Sindjelic Trpinja are set to cause waves if not a tsunami in
Croatian football after announcing their ambitious plan yesterday to
capture the HNL first divison title within 5 years after the lucrative
backing of one of
Serbia's wealthiest men Miroslav Mišković who has
promised to make the outfit the best funded team in Croatia.
Plans for a
15,000 all seater stadium which will completed by 2010 were
also announced, the team will draw support primarily from local Serbs
which is sure to raise tensions with the Croat population with one HNL
official already branding the move as unbelievable.
In charge of the football department is Serbian trainer Ratko Dostanic
who most recently left FK Vardar in the former Yugoslav republic of
Macedonia in protest after the countries recognition of Kosovo,
Dostanic told the Guardian News: „I have over five years at the club
now to build a championship winning team.
”I don't readily look to jump about. I have long-term thoughts in my
mind, so this makes it a little bit more long term because, at any one
time, I still have five years ahead of me.
„I think it is a really exciting time for the football club and the
local Serbian population who are excited at the prospect of their team
going head to head with clubs such as Dinamo Zagreb and Hajduk Split in
a few years- and I want to be here with all my heart and soul.”
The prospect of Serbian club in Croatian top flight football is sure to
be the subject of intense scrutiny from fans and authorities alike, and
to make matters worse the club is aligned with Serbian giants Red Star
Belgrade who are best remembered for destroying Dinamo Zagrebs ground
and supporters in 1990 which many call the precursor to the civil war
which followed shortly after.
Time will tell if this club will cause the angst and confrontation as
many have already predicted or will it be a benefit in renewing
interest in the floundering league with already has some of Europe's
most dismal attendance records
