After finding out who 'Žalgiris'is playing with in UEFA playoffs in Lithuanian forums and social media we had two types of comments. One were excited about team like 'Dinamo' Zagreb comming to Lithuania, other were not so happy about the fact that 'Žalgiris' got such a strong opponent. Match in Croatia with the strongest team of that country didn't went as good as every Lithuanian would prefer, but minus two goals is not a dead sentence yet. Everyone is aware of the fact that there are guys following players everywhere they go. They are football fans or in other way – ultras. Who the hell are those 'Bad Blue Boys' knows almost every football lover, but whats happening in their heads right now I only found out when I came to Croatia.
Somehow it happened that one of the first people I met here in Zagreb is from bad and blue. I was always admiring the culture of ultras, so I was really excited aboue the opportunity to hear more about the legendary firm from the first-hand.
Even if BBB were always famous about fighting other ultras or police and destroying stadiums, right now it's calmer. At this point the most important fight for them is the one, which is happening for many years and it's with clubs vice-president Zdravko Mamic. Officially president of club is Mirko Barisic, but he is leading the club pretty much the same Dmitryi Medvedev was during his president time in Russia.
For the first time I felt that guys really hate Zdravko Mamic during the concert organised by BBB – 'Otpor sistemu'. During it there were flags all around with crossed Mamic's head, I heard them singing all the time songs against him and speaches from stage were also against him. Next day I went to game with Split 'Hajduk' and I must admit, I felt a bit dissapointed – there were only few hundred people in the tribune so sometimes 'Torcida' from Split were even louder – nothing to compare with impressive videos I saw online. After this game I decided to find out whats happening inside of that club.
First thing catching my eye is the last name which is repeating everywhere where you read about 'Dinamo' heads – Mamic. Zdravko – vicepresident, Zoran (brother) – coach and sport manager, Mario (sun) – agent for half of players, ect. Long story short – let's get as much money as possible for one family. Moreover, Zdravko himself does not represent the team in a very good way – he was arrested for a verbal fight with Croatias Minister of Sport, Science and Education last year, had a conflict with legendary player of Split 'Hajduk' (since then he is forbided to enter the home stadium of 'Dinamo' strongest opponent in Croatia), he had fights just on street, neverending conflicts with press, ect. At the moment the main goal for BBB is to fight for a right to manage club in one member = one vote rule. This is the way how clubs like 'Barcelone', 'Bayern' and many others are electing presidents. While fighting for democracy they found the movement 'Za naš Dinamo'. Even if Mamic said that only few loud speaking hooligans, who simply don't like him are the only ones against the way how he manages the club, they collected more than 60k signatures in one month and the number is increasing.
Despite the fact that Mamic is inviting BBB leaders while offering them not only money, but also marketing, percentage from tickets, even help to find jobs for their families (I could think it's only gossip, but every BBB would give his right arm that it's true), guys are holding for their believes. Unfortunately, about twenty of ex-BBB, like others say, took the money of privilegies and founded other 'Dinamo' fan club. They got North tribune, which belonged to BBB for ages, while real ultras now are in the East. Actually, most of the time the East tribune is half or totally empty, because huge amount of BBB are boycotting every home game since 2010 and minimum 500 of them are forbided to enter the stadium(Mamic black lists).
Entering the black list is not that hard as it can look. The reasons are starting with having fight with police or other fans and ending with just singing racist song (rough translation 'Mamic, you gipsy, get out of our sacredness' or showing in TV show where you don't agree with management of club. Comparing it to the guys from the North tribune, it can look funny. For example, their leader Nijaz T. is lately released from prison where he spent three years for attack police oficer, and many different crimes, he attended in many fights, had many problems with police, ect. so, he has a solid past connected with crimes and he still not only can enter the stadium, but from what I understood, is pretty good friend and ally of Mamic.
When 'Dinamo' about week ago was playing with 'Žalgiris' in Maksimir stadium it was pretty quite. I could even hear A. Vitkauskas screaming 'go to the front' for his team. Green and white had about 60 people there, in the North tribune there were less 'Dinamo' fans than Žalgiris. East was empty – BBB officially boycotted the game.
All over the world you can kind complete a part in your to-do-list if you fight BBB. For example two years ago fans of Moscow 'Spartak' came to Kijev (about 800km) only to fight BBB (I'm glad that they need visas to go to Lithuania so probably Vilnius is not going to become a battlefield). Even if 'Dinamo' won against 'Žalgiris' which was not fast and precise enough, guys from Vilnius still have a chance at home, where there will deffinately be supporters from 'Pietu-IV' to help them. Still I think that green-white guys will not 'complete that part in to-do-list'. Not only because I hope they will not, but I believe that BBB have enough problems at home and they will still be concentrated to that, so I think that fight against 'Mamic crew' and real BBB is more probable. Finally those guys will have an opportunity to stand shoulder to shoulder in the same stadium. When I asked one BBB if this scenario is more probable, he just smile and said 'I hope'.
All in all, we'll have 'Dinamo' in Vilnius with the corrupted boss, about 30 his followers and probably about 100 of BBB. What will happen in tribunes is hard to predict, but deffinately worth seeing. Wish you a nice game, enjoy!
