GERMANY
Neuer - 6.5:
Was helpless for the first goal, and otherwise had almost nothing to do.
Came off his line well and made a pair of rather simple saves.
Lahm
- 7: - Completely at fault for the opener, the German captain
took a risk and paid the price. He did, however, atone for his mistakes
with an incredible goal early in the second half and aside from the one
mistake, played a very solid game.
Mertesacker - 5:
Sloppy with his passing early in the game and rather untested later. He
did, however, make a key block of Dzeko's shot late in the game and
handled the Wolfsburg striker much more comfortably than did Friedrich.
Friedrich
- 5: Like Mertesacker, it is difficult to judge Friedrich's
performance due to his relative lack of defensive duties. The Hertha
Berlin captain was outmuscled by Dzeko early on, but did not play the
price and generally had little to do.
Badstuber - 6:
A combination of clumsiness and brilliance. He made a poor tackle in
the 11th minute, but seconds later, superbly headed the ball clear.
Occasionally was caught out of position on the left flank and was
inaccurate in his passing in the first half, but looked much more
assured after the break.
Khedira - 8: - Much
better than Schweinsteiger in the first half, the Stuttgart man went on
the attack and played a beautiful through ball to Podolski on 24
minutes. Should have scored a brace before half-time, but missed once,
and was denied by an incredible block. After the break, he played second
fiddle to Schweinsteiger, but won the ball, and nullified the BiH
counterattack.
Schweinsteiger - 8: Germany may
have won the majority of possession, but the Bayern Munich midfielder
looked very rusty in the first half. He misplaced several passes and
generally wasn't very aggressive. After the break, however,
Schweinsteiger came to life. His distribution was impressive and he
showed his poise by netting three times (two of which counted) from the
spot.
Trochowski - 5: Not bad, but nowhere near
as good as Mueller and Marin. His crosses were rather impressive, but in
Loew's current system, his service is unnecessary.
Ozil -
7.5: Might have had a hat trick on another day. Probably
should have earned a penalty as he rounded Hasagic early on, and hit the
underside of the crossbar early in the second half. Tested Hasagic with
a cracking effort, and played several impressive passes. If he can
improve his finishing, Ozil will surely be one of the World Cup's
brightest stars.
Podolski - 6.5: Was denied by
the crossbar in the opening minutes, and was one of Germany's few bright
points in attack throughout the first half. After the break, however,
he did very little, and was eventually substituted.
Klose
- 3: Utterly anonymous. His first meaningful touch came after
43 minutes, and wasn't enough to prevent his substitution at the start
of the second half. Surely has lost his starting role to Cacau.
Substitutes
Mueller
- 7.5: A much more appropriate inclusion than Trochowski, the
20-year-old ran at defenders, and used a combination of strength and
skill to force mistakes. Deservedly won a penalty.
Cacau -
8.5: Man of the match, and infinitely better than Klose. The
Stuttgart striker set up Lahm and Ozil early in the second half, and
played a major role in the play leading up to Mueller's penalty. He
didn't score, but he did manage to inject life into the German attack
with his brilliant turns and clever return passes. Will likely start at
the World Cup.
Marin - 8: Replaced the tiring
Podolski, and had immediate impact. The diminutive winger won a penalty,
combined well with Mueller and Cacau, and perhaps should have won a
second spot kick late in the second half.
Gomez - 4:
Had only ten minutes to make an impact, and did just about as much as
Klose. His stock doesn't take quite as much of a hit, though, due to his
limited playing time.

Kroos

BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA
Hasagic - 6: Twice
denied Ozil's shots from distance, and did well to throw the youngster
off his stride after being rounded. Had absolutely no chance to stop the
opener, but might have saved one of the penalties if he wasn't rooted
to the ground.
Mravac - 4: Made several
mistakes, and was fortunate Germany failed to capitalise on them. He
left Podolski alone several times, but at least partially redeemed
himself with a goal-saving tackle late in the first half. That tackle
resulted in injury, however, forcing the 28-year old to be substituted.
Nadarevic - 7: Made up
for Mravac's errors, and always intervened at the right moment to deny
the German attack. The 3-1 scoreline really does not do justice to his
performance.
Spahic - 7.5:
Comfortably Bosnia's most valuable player, but misses a rating of 8
because of the penalty he conceded to Mueller. Nonetheless, the captain
marshalled his back line impressively, was ultra aggressive with tackles
to deny Trochowski, Marin, and Khedira, and kept the German strikers
silent. Also made a Roberto Ayala-type pass out of danger in the 66th
minute.
Jahic - 4.5: -
Comfortably handled Trochowski in the first half, but had many more
difficulties with Marin, and conceded the penalty that led to the
go-ahead goal. He also got away with another possible penalty late in
the game.
Salihovic - 4: Didn't
match Khedira's energy in the first half, and had a hard time dealing
with Ozil. This match was always going to be won or lost in the
midfield, and according to the scoreline, Salihovic could not do enough
to support the Bosnian cause.
Rahimic - 4.5:
Outmuscled and outhustled by Cacau and Khedira. Like Salihovic, he just
didn't do enough to support his team-mates, although his passing was
marginally better than that of his partner.
Pjanic - 6.5:
Bosnia's best playmaker by a country mile. The Lyon attacking
midfielder played a clever chip to Dzeko for the opener, provided a
number of excellent crosses, and perhaps should have scored when in a
one-on-one situation with Neuer, but failed to pick his target quickly
enough.
Misimovic - 4: Far too quiet. He may be
one of the Bundesliga's best playmakers, but the Wolfsburg midfielder
has plenty to prove for country. His only real contribution to the
Bosnian attack was a speculative shot that Neuer easily claimed.
Ibisevic
- 4: Like Misimovic, the Hoffenheim man never really got into
the match. Linked with Dzeko once or twice, but was generally too
isolated from his striking partner.
Dzeko - 7:
Too strong for the German defenders, but struck a very lonely figure up
front. While he didn't have much of a say in the goal with which he was
credited, Dzeko did everything correctly in the lead-up play. If he
leaves Wolfsburg this summer, the Bundesliga will have lost an
irreplaceable talent.
