Tottenham adds to stadium plans

Premiership football club Tottenham Hotspur has released new plans for its new 58,000-seat stadium on Tottenham High Road.

The club, run by chairman Daniel Levy, has introduced a new public square and a 150-room hotel to the Northumberland Development Project plans.

Levy said: ‘Too often new stadiums are surrounded by empty, dead space and we did not want that in Tottenham. Instead, with these new plans for the public square and public space, we have embraced the opportunity to create something truly special for local people.’

Architects have also ‘tightened’ the stadium bowl to move fans closer to the pitch.

Tottenham captain Robbie Keane said: ‘The atmosphere in the stadium and its impact on the players can never be underestimated. Having the fans right up close, on the edge of the action, can lift the team on the day when it matters most and make the stadium a fortress.’

The stadium plans, originally announced in October last year, include 450 new homes, a new supermarket, a museum and offices for the club.
