THIS is what Juande Ramos signed up for. Not the feeble and anonymous figure who stumbled his way through the opening weeks and months of the season. Modric ran the game against Stoke, pretty much single-handedly reminding The Potters that it takes more than the odd fancy throw-in to compete with real class.

Player of the week - Luka Modric

Modric has failed to live up to expectations since his move to Tottenham, but the Croatia schemer produced arguably his best performance in a Spurs shirt in Tuesday's victory over Stoke. The diminutive playmaker was at the hub of everything good about Tottenham's display inspiring them to a 3-0 half-time lead. His performance was so good it won praise from both managers at the end of the game with Stoke chief Tony Pulis conceding Modric ran the show. Spurs boss Harry Redknapp will be hoping Modric's showing is a sign of things to come as he looks to guide his side away from trouble at the wrong end of the table.

Harry Redknapp paid tribute to Luka Modric after his display against Stoke and insisted he gives the lads this simple instruction: "Get Luka on the ball."

The midfielder made things tick again in a must-win match against the Potters at the Lane on Tuesday night.

He helped create the second and third goals as we stormed into a 3-0 by the half-hour mark playing some of our best football of the season.

We ended up 3-1 winners and immediately jumped from 16th to 13th in the Premier League table.

"Luke showed that against a strong, physical team that not only is he a great footballer, he has a massive heart," beamed Harry. "Not only does he take a kick and a tackle, he wants the ball in tight areas and never shirks receiving the ball - no matter how tight people are to him.

"We've got to keep giving him the ball because he's always available.

You get him on the ball and he makes things happen. You have to get your best footballers on the ball, that is the name of the game. He's a fantastic footballer.

"When I first came here I'd only seen him at Wembley (for Croatia v England) and I thought he was an Eyal Berkovic.

"He was a fantastic player for me at West Ham, but he as a slight boy, not at all physical - great on the ball but when he wasn't on the ball it was difficult.

"This fella is different altogether - he challenges for headers, makes tackles, is hard to knock off the ball and is as brave as a lion. He has a real go.

"He's a terrific all-round player. When I didn't know him I wondered if he was strong enough for England but you look at him and not only does he want the ball, he's brave, works and tackles and does his share. He is a top, top player."
