Liverpool did their talking on the pitch and there were good performances all around. Igor Biscan was excellent and showed he is a central midfielder and not a centre half or right winger. Benitez knows that and Biscan has responded well to his manager''s confidence in him.

Salif Diao played alongside Biscan and scored a superb goal to give the Reds the lead, producing a great finish after Whitbread headed down Stephen Warnock''s well worked corner. He was also booked for a rash tackle but in fairness he did well after that and worked hard showing a good attitude.
