Napisah na temi Premiership čim je objavljeno da je bio sjajan čovjek i trener, sad vidim da se svugdje tako o njemu piše, stvarno su ga nekako svi voljeli, uvijek pun riječi hvale za svakog protivnika. Zaslužio je da ga se spomene i ovdje, zaslužuje nadimak Sir više nego Feguson.
A i kad pogledaš rezultate nakon njega - niti je Engleska više bila tako blizu osvajanja SP, niti je Ipswich više osvajao trofeje, niti je Newcastle igrao LP. A još je odlično vodio Porto, Barcelonu i PSV.

An unassuming gent, who was liked and well respected by all. Quite apart from his qualities as a man, his achievments as a manager were phenomenal. To take Ipswich Town to UEFA Cup glory ranks as one of the great managerial achievments in European history. To win major trophies with clubs in four different European leagues is simply incredible. To have taken England to within a milimetre of the World Cup final, where he could have extracted revenge on Maradona's Argentina, against whom he was a figure in that iconic game in 1986. To have nurtured players like Ronaldo and coached some of the greatest of his era. To have taken Newcastle to the Champions League and default European finishes in the English league in contrast to the state of that club now (after he was disgracefully sacked). To have been such an amiable and humble man. To have raised so much money in his final years for cancer charities.

He was of the old school that is almost entirely gone now -- working class lad become giant of English and European football management from industrial British towns, the Steins, Shankly and Paisleys. He was at the far end of that generation from that social background. A different era and a different time virtually coming to an end now with the passing of him.

A great man, who always said affectionate and generous things about Liverpool FC. The world is a lesser place without him in it.
