VERONICA DONOVAN

NOTE:

Despite dating youthful offender Lincoln Burrows all throughout high school, Veronica Donovan never let the street life of Cicero, Illinois seduce her. An over-achiever, she received a full academic scholarship to the University of Illinois in Champaign where she graduated with a B.A. in political science, then went on to earn her juris doctorate from Baylor Law School.

After graduating from Baylor, Donovan moved back to Chicago to practice real estate law at the offices of Glazer and Ross.

Despite her success, Donovan never forgot her roots. Although she had no experience in criminal law, she recently defended childhood friend Michael Scofield against a charge of armed robbery after he refused the assistance of all court appointed attorneys.

Donovan is currently working with Nick Savrinn in an attempt to exonerate Lincoln Burrows of first degree murder charges.

NICK SAVRINN

NOTE:
When Savrinn graduated with honors from Columbia Law School, all the prestigious Manhattan law offices offered him lucrative positions within their firms. But he turned them all down, opting to return home to Chicago and do pro bono work on behalf of the wrongfully convicted.

This career move surprised some of Savrinn’s classmates, but not his close friends and family. When Savrinn was three years old, his father was convicted of a crime he didn’t commit. Seeing firsthand the devastation that a wrongful conviction can bring, Savrinn pledged to do everything within his power to make sure no one else would suffer a similar fate.

In his eleven years at Project Justice, Savrinn has successfully exonerated thirteen clients who were facing a combined three hundred years in prison, five of whom were on death row.

But just recently he achieved his most personal legal victory when his father was finally exonerated and released.

Fernando Sucre was born and raised in Chicago, and since coming to Fox River has been a model prisoner. Sucre’s offense was holding up a liquor store with an unloaded firearm. He did so to secure enough cash to buy an engagement ring for his girlfriend Maricruz, whom he had met three years earlier. The police were on the scene before he had a chance to flee and he was arrested immediately.

Sucre and Maricruz had been dating for two years prior to Sucre’s incarceration and six months ago, Maricruz moved to New York after accepting a job as a buyer for a major Manhattan fashion retailer.

A month later, Sucre’s cousin Hector also moved to New York. He told his friends that his company transferred him, but those who know him best suspect he requested the transfer so that he could be closer to Maricruz.

After escaping from Fox River, Sucre learned that Maricruz and his cousin Hector were going to be married in Las Vegas. Sucre arrived at the chapel hours before the wedding, in an attempt to stop it. However, Hector had notified the local Nevada authorities, and Sucre fled the scene.

Sucre was also allegedly involved in the incident at the residence of Jeanette Owen’s, a Tooele, Utah resident who was held hostage in her own home, while members of the Fox River eight dug up her garage in search of the elusive Westmoreland $5 million.

John Abruzzi, former Chicago mob boss, is arguably the most infamous prisoner incarcerated at Fox River Penitentiary; and has translated his celebrity into power inside the prison walls. Other inmates, even murderers, defer to Abruzzi in prison-related business. While the correctional officers enforce the rules, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that John Abruzzi runs the prison.

Abruzzi was convicted on two counts of murder and two counts of conspiracy to commit murder after decades of eluding punishment from Illinois district attorneys. Otto Fibonacci provided eyewitness testimony at Abruzzi’s trial, which convinced the jury to convict Abruzzi of rubbing out two rival gangsters. Abruzzi subsequently put a hit out on Fibonacci, forcing him to enter the Witness Protection Program.
