NOTES:
Charles Westmoreland is one of Fox River’s longest tenured inmates, currently serving his twenty eighth year.

 

Westmoreland was originally tried and convicted in Douglas, Arizona and served the first two years of his sentence in the Arizona State Prison at Florence. Because of budget restraints, Arizona had to outsource some of its inmates to other states. As a result, Westmoreland was transferred to Fox River in 1973.

 

Immediately upon his incarceration in Arizona, there were whispers that Westmoreland was, in fact, the legendary plane hijacker DB Cooper. In 1971, Cooper notoriously held a 727 full of passengers ransom until he was paid $1.5 million, then parachuted from the plane into the woods of the Pacific Northwest, never to be seen again. While there was never enough proof to indict Westmoreland for Cooper’s crime, there was just enough circumstantial evidence to suspect him. And that suspicion followed him to Fox River.

 

It isn’t easy to be an inmate whom others suspect to be a millionaire. Other prisoners constantly harass him. He’s been threatened, assaulted, one time he suffered a broken nose from another inmate who tried to extort money from him. In recent years, the physical threats have subsided. Part of that has to do with his advanced age. But after three decades of steadfast denials, many inmates have come to the simple conclusion that Charles Westmoreland is not, in fact, D.B. Cooper.

BENJAMIN FRANKLIN

NOTES:
After being dishonorably discharged from the United States Army, Miles returned home to learn that his war record was now a major blemish on his resume. Needing to provide for his wife and daughter, Miles secretly took a job transporting stolen goods and was apprehended by local police. Unwilling to cut a deal and give up the identities of his associates, Franklin was sentenced to Fox River.

 

After escaping Fox River, C-Note attempted to board a train without purchasing a ticket. He jumped off the train and into a river, where he then fled to Utah. It has also been logged that he attempted to make contact with his wife and child at this time –in order to arrange a rendezvous point with them.

 

C-Note was part of the group of escaped inmates who took over Jeanette Owens’ home in Tooele Utah. After his unsuccessful attempt at trying to procure the money, he reached out to his brother in law and former associates, who helped him grab his wife Kacee, and daughter Dede before they were taken into FBI custody. Kacee was subsequently arrested for aiding and abetting a convict in Harvey, North Dakota. C-Note remains on the run with his daughter, who has a rare illness.

DAVID APOLSKIS

ELIGIBLE FOR PAROLE IN: One year

 

NOTES:
Apolskis has always had great hands. In junior high, they helped him win a starting job as a wide receiver on the school’s football team. But in ninth grade, Apolskis was deemed academically ineligible to participate in athletics. That’s when he found a more profitable use for his talent.

Apolskis became a master pickpocket, and from the ages of 14 through 19, he swiped over 200 wallets and 150 watches. Those statistics are even more impressive considering the fact that he spent eight of those months in juvenile hall on two separate convictions. But Apolskis got a little too ambitious when he tried to lift a wallet from an off duty police officer. He was immediately apprehended and when the authorities searched his apartment, they discovered a valuable baseball card collection (appraised at over three hundred thousand dollars) that had been reported missing two days prior. He was charged with grand larceny, and sentenced to five years at Fox River.

CHARLES PATOSHIK

 

ALIAS: Haywire

SENTENCE: Sixty years
TIME LEFT ON SENTENCE: Fifty six years
ELIGIBLE FOR PAROLE IN: Twenty six years

 

NOTES:
Before his incarceration, Patoshik was a stand-out doctorate candidate in mathematics, focusing his research on a type of geometric pattern, known as fractals. It was during this time of intense study that he began to experience noticeable symptoms of mental illness. Not long after, and despite no history of violence, Patoshik walked into his parents’ bedroom, brandishing a shotgun, and killed them both while they slept.

 

Patoshik claims no memory of the crime and has offered no explanation as to his motive. Upon intake, he was committed to the Psychiatric Ward of Fox River, where he earned the nickname “Haywire.” After four years of intensive medication and monitoring, his doctors have seen sufficient progress to release him into general population.

 

ADDITIONAL NOTES:
Inmate has a neuroanatomic lesion which causes profound insomnia as well as diagnosed as schizo-affective with bi-polar tendencies. He is given daily medication to treat this disorder.

 

On the night of the escape, Haywire reportedly stole a ten-speed children’s bike from a ten year old girl in a Chicago suburb. He later emerged in Boseville, OH, where he broke into a Dairy Nome, and then the nearby home of an elderly blind woman. No assault was involved in either of these instances, but he did steal a pair of clothing and an oil painting from the woman’s residence. He was last seen in Lorain, OH, where he walked out of a hardware store with several items without paying for them.

 

WARDEN HENRY POPE

 

NOTES:
Warden Pope has been in charge of Fox River Penitentiary for the past eighteen years with an aim towards rehabilitation. It is his hope that when his inmates are released, they will be less likely to commit another crime. For that purpose, he has established an exhaustive prison industries program to help his inmates gain real world training in fields as diverse as painting, landscaping and various other industrial vocations. Warden Pope also runs an award-winning educational program to help his inmates gain high school equivalency diplomas and, in rare cases, even bachelor degrees. As he nears retirement, Pope seeks a successor who will run Fox River in a similar manner.

 

During the escape, Michael Scofield, bound and gagged pope inside his office closet. After the eight inmates broke out of the prison, both he and Captain Brad Bellick were called to a hearing held by DOC board members. When Bellick’s shady practices with Prison industries were brought to light, he was fired by board member Ed Pavelka. In an act of unanimity, Pope resigned from his position of Fox River Warden. Ed Pavelka has since taken his former position.

 

CAPTAIN BRAD BELLICK

 

ALIAS: Boss

 

NOTES:
Captain Bellick passed the Correctional Officer Exam the autumn after he graduated high school and has been at Fox River Penitentiary ever since. In that time, he has slowly and steadily climbed up the C.O. ranks.

Three years ago, despite several claims of inmate abuse (none of which could ever be corroborated), Bellick was promoted to the position of captain, the highest rank a C.O. can earn. His duties included: aiding in the transportation of death row inmates to the electric chair, supervising Fox River’s prison industries program and overseeing the day-to-day operations of all the inmates in general population.

Captain Bellick’s practices were called into question, however, after The Fox River Eight escaped on his watch. His job with the Department of Corrections was swiftly terminated the following day, leaving Bellick to ponder what the future held for him. Looking for revenge, Bellick teamed with former Fox River C.O. Roy Geary to track down the eight escapees and take Westmoreland’s five million as well as collect the reward money being offered on each of the con’s heads.

 

Bellick and Geary caught up with Westmoreland’s loot and T-Bag in Kansas but after they acquired it, Geary double crossed Bellick and took the money. T-Bag later caught up with Geary and killed him, then framed Bellick for the murder. Bellick soon found himself back at Fox River, now in Gen Pop, alone and miserable.
