Mag: I don't understand, you are now ATP no. 1, why are you reluctant to be called that? have we wasted our Chinese/English world no. 1 series cover?

Nadal: I'm sorry, i did not consent to taking cover photos because it is not even the 18th. besides, i just want to play a good round of tennis, and win as many games as i can. being no. 1 is not really important to me, it will not change my passion for tennis. Before me, there was Federer and 'Moya'.  They were world no. 1 too. but now, there are players who are younger than me, who play well. I know a lot of people care about who is world no.1, but I don't.

Mag: then, when you turn on your computer on the 18th, and see that you have beaten Federer, won't you feel some twinge of happiness?

Nadal: there wont be much exurberant joy, because before Beijing, I know, everybody knew. Also, me beating Federer is only temporary. to me, he will always be the best. in the past year, his performance has left me awestruck. perhaps i have lost a bit of confidence when i lose games, however, Federer's grace in playing is always there, he will surely stage a comeback.

Mag: Nadal, are you worried about an olympic gold?

Nadal: this is entirely different. being world no.1 doesnt matter because it will not always be yours. however, an olympic gold medal will always be mine, thats why i will cherish this moment, and im here to win.

Mag: but the day you arrived in beijing, you didn't look as refreshed as you do now

Nadal: i'm really sorry. i'm realyl tired.before, 15 days 9 matches, plus the 12 hour time difference, plus the qualifiers to the finals being held in the first week, i'm almost mad.but i've finally woken up, and everything seems like a dream><for these crazy situations and pressures, plus the lack of coordination with the chinese press, i can only apologize. tomorrow im going back to the states, thats another 12 hours diferrence, playing tennis is going to be hard.

Mag: Gonzalez won 1 gold and one bronze in the athens olympics. but this time round, he has lost every match. perhaps nadal's era begins now?

Nadal: dont say that. Gonzalez plays amazingly, plus his serves are incredible. i've only been lucky this past year, just hoping that my luck continues.

Mag: wimbledon 1st, ATP no. 1, what are you missing?

Nadal: to further improve my game, and win as much as i can. and also to live like a normal person.

Mag: you seldom leave the olympic village?

Nadal: i feel that the beijing olympic village is really comfortable, i need to get over jet lag, regain my strength, and the village allows me to do so. i've been to athens in 2004, and there was little time difference, so i understood how an olympic village works. but the beijing games is realyl different. everything is here. besides, all my spanish compatriots are living together, i dont feel the least bit lonely, or bored. especialyl the spanish basketball team. they made me feel as if i never left home. Truth be told, I've left home for too long.

Mag; we can imagine. however, being in the 'village', you can't escape fans and autographs?

Nadal: yea, everyday's the same. but i've gotten used to it, meeting other ppl's expectations. alot of the staff here are really helpful, their expectations of you will never diminish.

Mag: which part do you like best about the beijing olympics?

Nadal; i like the field in front of my dorm. there is unlimited internet access. its very different, but i often lie there and go online

Mag: any memorable moments in the olympic village?

Nadal; of course. among all my well wishers are some superstars. the other day, when i was having my breakfast, my teammates told me that Phelps was behind me, having breakfast too. i know he is the biggest superstar of this olympics. little did i know, after his meal, he came up to me to wish me good luck. naturally, i asked for a group photo, but neither of us had cameras, so i had to ask my coach to take a picture of us with his camera phone. the result isnt as good, but ill always remember, me and Michael Phelps, in the olympic village.

Mag: on the court, can you hear your chinese fans?

Nadal: they are the most memorable of my olympic experience. i remember there were two little girls, who kept screaming in spanish' GO NADAL, GO!'. After that, my publicist spoke to them, only realising that they dont speak a word of spanish, only learning those worsd just for me.

Mag: when you received your gold medal, were you thinking of them?
 
Nadal: yes. i receive a gold medal not just for spain, but also for all the fans in china.

Mag: paid any attention to females?

Nadal: i am constantly surprised, there are so many good chinese female tennis players. i think in the near future, china's tennis team will rise up and conquer.. since they;ve already got the fans

Mag: any last words before we leave?

Nadal: i know why Djokovic cried when he lost to me. as a pro tennis player, all he has is that drive to succeed, and the chance to win the olympics is not easy to come by, as it is only held once in 4 years. thats why im grateful to bejing for giving me good luck, for the olympic village for providing me the facilities to do so. to play for your team, for your country, is my dream since i was young. thats why i want to thank beijing for making my dream possible. also, i want to wish a smooth hosting of the beijing games, and congratualte all participants. beijing, goodbye!

Iako se sportom bavi više od deset godina, mlada Paragvajka u svojoj je zemlji poznatija kao missica - 2006. godine bila je prva pratilja Miss Paragvaja, a natjecala se i na izboru za Miss bikinija. U ljubavi i manekenstvu Leryn trenutno ima više uspjeha nego u sportu - u Pekingu je bila 51. od ukupno 52 natjecateljice.

Novak Đoković i Leryn Franco još se nisu izjasnili o svojoj ljubavi, ali su u Pekingu na Olimpijskim igrama u nekoliko navrata viđeni kako izmjenjuju nježnosti. Federerovim stopama i kad je ljubav u pitanju

I slavni Roger Federer je romansu započeo upravo na Olimpijskim igrama u Sydneyu 2000. godine. Tamo je, naime, upoznao Mirku Vavrinec, švicarsku tenisačicu slovenskog podrijetla, a zajedno su i danas. Svijet je ovih dana obišao i podatak kako je u Olimpijskom selu podijeljeno više od sto tisuća kondoma - organizatori su dobro predvidjeli da će u druženjima nakon treninga doći do "sparivanja", a toga je ove godine navodno više nego ikad.

Gisela zbog Fernanda odgodila let

Gisela Dulko otkazala je avionski let za SAD, koji je bio predviđen nekoliko sati poslije polufinalnog dvoboja Fernanda Gonzáleza i Jamesa Blake, kako bi pomogla svom momku Fernandu .

Južnoamerički mediji pišu da je Hans Gildemeister,izbornik čileanske reprezentacije, molio Giselu da ostane dan duže u Pekingu kako bi svom dragom pomogla da se maksimalno kvalitetno pripremi za finalni dvoboj s Nadalom.

Gisela je to prihvatila, iako ovog tjedna igra u New Havenu, što je Gonzálezu pomoglo da se barem malo oporavi nakon iznimno napornog susreta s Blakeom. Fernando je bio vrlo umoran, ali je brzo povratio snagu kada se u njegovom zagrljaju, što nije očekivao, pojavila atraktivna zaručnica.
