Goran ako pobijedi Cedrica Piolina – moze uci u finale.....
To bi bilo drugi put da igra finale Graza, kada je 2005. godine u finalu tijesno izgubio od Mustera u tri seta.

Stvarno su carevi Roger i Rafa.![]()
If you believe Federer, he is not ``too obsessed'' with getting the better of Rafael Nadal, no matter what it takes. Federer did, after all, give his on-court nemesis a ride on a private jet from last week's tournament in Montreal to this week's tournament here after learning that Nadal was having trouble finding a suitable commercial flight. Yep, there they were, thousands of miles above the earth, Roger and Rafa, chatting with their girlfriends over a sushi lunch, like any pair of wealthy pals. Would McEnroe have done that for Connors? Would Woods for Mickelson?

Toronto: Please Wash Your Hands!
The flu bug going around the WTA locker room seems to have come full circle. Marion Bartoli, who fell ill after arriving in North America for Stanford a month ago, says she’s fallen sick again and retired in her quarterfinal in Toronto this afternoon.
She was down 6-2, 3-0 against Zi Yan on a cool and blustery day before stopping. At the end of the first set, Bartoli used the on-court coaching rule to call her dad down and told him she could hardly play. With her hair whipping around her face and a permanently furrowed brow, she trudged through three more games before stopping.
Bartoli didn’t specify whether it felt like the same virus that hit her on the West Coast, but did say it was the same one that’s felled a number of her fellow competitors this week.
“I've got a virus like some few players had during this tournament,” she said. “I was just too tired, and you know, I've got a headache, I don't feel good at all. And it was very windy today, and I couldn't see the ball.”
The mystery bug has been one of the toughest opponents on the hardcourt circuit this summer, and if things keep up, could end up moving past Maria Sharapova at the top of the US Open Series standings.
Anna Chakvetadze retired in her opening match with symptoms similar to Bartoli's. Given the exhausting hardcourt summer she’s had, it’s not surprising she was easy prey. After playing Fed Cup the week after Wimbledon, Chakvetadze went straight back to tournament play, winning Cincinnati, Stanford and reaching the semifinals of San Diego in consecutive weeks. She also played doubles at Stanford and San Diego, reaching the final both times. Though she skipped last week’s event in Los Angeles, she headed to the city anyway and developed the virus there.
“I
start pretty solid, 3-0 up,” she said, after stopping at 7-6(5), 2-0
down to Virginie Razzano. “And then suddenly I felt that, like, point
by point, my power's going away.
“[I had] a headache, a little bit dizziness and can't really breathe well, you know. And I have cough which was bothering me during the match.”
Katarina Srebotnik was another victim, retiring down 6-1, 4-2 to Shuai Peng in the second round, but she’s carried on in doubles.
Last week, Eleni Daniilidou had to quit against Maria Sharapova when she could barely breathe on court. Jelena Jankovic was also struggling with the bug last week but says it’s all over except for a runny nose, so at least it seems to run its course quickly.
But there’s no sign of a paranoid hand-washing culture developing – que sera, sera is more like it.
“You feel maybe unlucky, why did you catch it, you know,” said Jankovic. “But we travel so much our immune system gets weaker. Sometimes you cannot help it.”
Kuznetsova returned to the circuit this week after taking a post-Wimbledon break, but isn’t planning to recoil from anyone who starts sniffing. “I'm not kind of person who goes like that,” she said. “If something meant to be, it's going to happen. But then I think I have very good vitamins, I'm taking vitamins, so I have very good immunity, I hope.”

Zanimljiv izvještaj sa US opena, našla sam na MTF.
went to the qualie week Tuesday - Thursday (yes, I hung around even in the rain on Tuesday hoping to see some players, and I did! - just not playing), and thought I should share some gossip.
The highlight of Wednesday was the Djokovic-Youzhny practice on Armstrong. Novak decided to be a jokester and play to the crowd by trying to hit balls out the stands and running around the court, homerun-style. Misha laughed along but half the time he looked at him like he was crazy and like the whole hitting session was a waste of time. They played an epic bh-cc point to see how long they could go without missing, first with topspin then slice, and I think in the end it was Novak who blew it. The slice shots reminded me of that great point from Fed-Youzhny at the AO this year. They also played a volley rally finally won by Misha with a fist pump. Novak did great impressions of Nadal, Roddick, Sharapova, and Federer. Someone asked in the other thread about what the Fed impression looked like, and ti was actually the best. He hit a forehand and backhand in exactly Fed's style, the way he hits the ball without moving his head, and also did the take-off-the-cap-and-shake-your-hair-out thing that Roger loves. And as they left the court and Misha was signign autographs, Novak did the Youzhny salute signature to each side of the court. I was impressed some fans actually knew it was Youzhny's gesture. I told Mish not to let him get away with that.
Also on Wednesday I watched some qualie matches, my favorites of which were Phau-Bass and Darcis' first round. Phau is super attractice, but also so talented. He should have closed out the match in straights but choked and double faulted on his match points, and then was down 4-2, 40-15 in the 3rd before finally waking up again and hitting winners from everywhere. Bass was pretty much an unimpressive counter-puncher waiting for Phau's mistakes, and at times there were many. I hope Bjorn can qualify here because he is so good when he wants to be.
On Thursday I saw Novak and Roddick play a practice set on Armstrong. Djokovic kicked his ass, breaking his serve twice so I think the set went 6-2 to Novak. Roddick was getting flustered and broke his racquet, starting cursing to Connors/his brother: "the fucking ball keeps flying... what am I supposed to do with that when he hits a fucking winner on the first ball everytime?!" Novak played so well and dictated all the baseline rallies, picking when to go for a winner and usually executing it perfectly. Roddick served huge aces on his first three points but after that his serve was nothing special and Djokovic was reading it easily. Roddick definitely took the practice seriously and was not happy by the end, getting really crabby with the fans too. Novak and Andy were also chatting for a while and were pretty friendly. Roddick must have been dissatisfied because a few hours later he was back practicing on Armstrong against Amer Delic. We also saw Connors around the grounds a couple times and his mood varied between impatient and patient, but luckily I got pictures and an autograph without much of a groan from him. He's still got that cocky and funny attitude.
Then watched Murray beat up on a streaky Henman in a practice set. Murray seems to be hitting the ball much better now. He really let it rip on some serves and forehands (much harder than I thought he could hit the ball) but was tentative on some other shots. I really don't see either one making it too far here. It was also nice to see and get pictures of Brad Gilbert and Paul Annacone on the same court. They seemed to get along well and were pretty chatty, even though their personalities couldn't be any more different. Brad LOVES the spotlight, no surprise, and was eating up the fans' attention but hitting out balls and saying dumb things.
Also saw Youzhny and Kohlschreiber play a practice set on the Grandstand. Misha started off big then kind of fizzled and Philipp stepped it up. I think at 5-5 they played a tiebreak cuz they were getting kicked off the court and Misha hit some nice shots. They will most likely play in the 2nd round here, which is interesting because they are such good friends and doubles partners, and also the Munich final. Earlier in the day I saw Kohl watching a qualie match and I asked for his autograph. He was sweet and smiled and said "Really? Thanks" when I said congrats on winning in Munich, but of course I didn't tell him that I was actually pissed at him for beating my favorite. I hope Misha can get revenge if they have their rematch in new York. My favorite thing in the world is to watch Youzhny move on the court, he changes direction so well with such natural athleticism and flexibility it's amazing. The points the two of them played were full of everything you want to see in a tennis match.
The nicest players I found with signing for fans were Djokovic, Youzhny, and Safin. They took their time to sign for everyone and posed for pictures willingly. Hewitt barely signed for anyone when I saw him leave the practice court and we were pissed. Same thing with Maria Sharapova - she got booed by the fans for not hanging around long to give autographs. Ollie Rochus was also pretty reluctant and took off as quickly as possible. Monfils and Mayer were really nice. I love Richard Gasquet but sometimes you can tell he wants to avoid the fans. He did thank me for wishing him luck though, and signed for most people who wanted it.
And last note - the biggest mob I saw the whole time at the US Open was unsurprisingly for Nadal. No one else attracted nearly as many people AT ALL. People were pushing and shoving and would probably kill just to get his autograph. He signed for everyone who was aggressive enough to get through, ans I wasn't one of them. Since I don't like him, I just settled for taking close-up pictures.
Hopefully I will upload my best pictures here but probably not for a while since I still have all my pics from previous US Opens as well as this year's Miami not online.

Federer wary of Nadal threat at U.S. Open
By Simon Cambers
NEW YORK, Aug 24 (Reuters) - Roger Federer goes into next week's U.S. Open as the overwhelming favourite as he bids to become the first man in the modern era to win the title for a fourth consecutive time.
But though he is high on confidence after winning his 50th career title in Cincinnati last weekend, the world number one has one name nagging away at him.
Victory in New York would not only make Federer the first man since American Bill Tillden in the 1920s to win four titles in succession, it would also see him win three of the four grand-slam events for the third time in four years.
A 12th grand-slam crown is also on the line for Federer, just two short of the record held by Pete Sampras.
Nadal ended any hope of a Federer grand slam by beating him in the French Open final and pushed him to five sets in the final at Wimbledon. The Swiss had no doubts about who will be his main rival over the next two weeks.
"Even though now people talk about (Novak) Djokovic, for me Nadal is better, a lot better to be honest," Federer told Reuters in an interview.
"If I don't win the U.S. Open I expect him to win it."
Djokovic beat both Nadal and Federer to win the Montreal Masters the week before Cincinnati but Federer said the Spaniard was a cut above the rest.
IMPRESSIVE STUFF
Federer said Nadal was being underestimated, especially by the media.
"There's no such thing as a specialist on clay now. Maybe it's your best surface but then you can always play well on the hard courts, and even grass today," he said.
"That's why I am not surprised at all at how good he is -- what has surprised me that at his young age, he's been able to do it for so long.
"That's impressive stuff and something that I wasn't able to do. That's why I have high respect for him.
"It's almost impossible for him to be as dominant on hard courts as he is on clay because hard courts is just a different ball game, but it (his main rival) is Nadal."
After equalling Bjorn Borg's record of five consecutive Wimbledon titles in July, Federer took a brief rest and then set to work in the heat of Dubai to prepare for the summer.
"I'm very happy that my hard work paid off in Dubai, right away," he said.
"Taking a break right after Wimbledon is nice, for my private life, for my mental part, for the physical strain I went through from the claycourt season and the grass, but then at the same time you'd like to carry over your confidence into another tournament.
"That's why it's always important to play well right away -- to forget about Wimbledon and look forward. I've had my best summer actually, playing in the finals (in Montreal) and winning (in Cincinnati), so hopefully I can keep it up at the Open."
The top seed will meet qualifiers in both the first two rounds in New York, but Federer said he was wary of every opponent.
"Everybody knows that a qualifier can be tough because he could make his break," he said.
"Ok, people wouldn't expect me to lose in the first round to someone ranked 150 or 200 in the world but it has happened in the past, so you have to always be wary.
"I've been on a great run at grand slams and best-of-five sets should favour me, but with the knockout system you never know."
