SP Divizija I Tallinn, Amiens
Croatia – Austria 0-6 (0:1, 0:4, 0:1)
The historic rivalry between the nations of Croatia and Austria goes way back, but it will take a while before it reaches hockey.
The Austrians, who surprisingly were relegated from the top pool last year, had little problems putting six pucks behind goalie Vanja Belic as the Croats were outshot 54-13. Belic held his fort pretty well for half of the game but the flood gates opened in the second when Thomas Koch scored two goals (3-0 and 4-0) in just four seconds midway through the second period. Belic was outstanding for most of the game, but was clearly out of position on Koch's first goal, his only mistake. Tomislav Grozaj had two clean breakawys on Reinhard Divis, but the St. Louis goalie stayed sharp on both occasions.
It is clear that Austria, who face Estonia on Monday, will play for promotion while the Croats will be happy to avoid relegation.
