Miami Heat upset to be on road for Christmas Day game

This will be the fourth consecutive season the Heat have played on Christmas — every year since Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh joined forces — and this is the third time the Heat will play on the road on Christmas.

It's also a big day for the league's TV contract. It marks the first time in the season that ABC televises games, and the league tries to spotlight the best teams and players.

However, some participants have blasted Christmas games, most notably former NBA coaches Phil Jackson and Stan Van Gundy.

Three years ago, James said, "If you ask any player, we'd rather be home with our families. ... It's definitely one of those days that you wish you could wake up in the morning with the kids and open up presents."

Of course, the players and coaches also realize they make an outstanding living in the NBA. That's why Wade said he understood the need to play on Christmas.
